This Friday our speaker will be Laura Sellers, the Director of Operations at Madam President Camp.

Madam President Camp is a week-long day camp, for girls ages 11 to 13 who are looking for a different camp experience in a supportive environment where they can learn and practice leadership skills. Their mission is to inspire all girls to use their voice to become leaders in their communities now and in the future.

The Madam President Camp was founded in 2012 by women leaders Dr. Lee Smithson Burd, and Pam Kelley, a Kansas City businesswoman. In 2011, Lee attended her daughter’s “princess camp” recital at school. As the girls strolled across the stage in their elaborate, pink princess costumes, Lee was struck by wanting her daughter to receive a more empowering message that would encourage her to dream big and to see her tremendous value in this world. Knowing our world needs more powerful female leaders, Lee began searching for an alternative way to inspire girls. Lee reached out to Pam and together they conceptualized a “Madam President Camp”.

Interact to Puerto Rico

Woodland Charity volunteers from Shawnee Mission Northwest Interact and Lenexa Rotary Club are traveling to Puerto Rico to implement a Water Project in partnership with local leaders of Yabucoa and Juncos! So exciting to have an amazing team!!!

Throw In the Towel

The Lenexa Rotary Club had a “Throw in the Towel” drive for Great Plains SPCA after they spoke at our club and said they had a great need for towels to help clean the animals, provide bedding and toys for the animals they care for. We collected 160+ pounds and delivered them last week. Thank you to everyone who donated!

Rotary Youth Exchange

School Year 2024-2025

Lenexa Rotary will be welcoming a new Rotary Youth Exchange Student for the coming school year. She is a girl from Chile and will be attending Mill Valley High School in Shawnee.

We have one host family and are still looking for two (2) more host families for the school year. Please seriously consider being a host family and ask your family and friends if they would like to be a part of this wonderful experience.

Peace Poles

Peace Pole Stroll and Artist Celebration

Thursday, July 18

7:00 – 8:00 p.m.

"Peace Poles are individual monuments that have been artistically designed to convey the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth”. This year the Lenexa Arts Council, the City of Lenexa, Kansas and the Lenexa Rotary Club have partnered to organize The Peace Poles Community Art Project. Over 30 individuals and groups have created Peace Poles that are now on display in Black Hoof Park. I encourage you to visit this outdoor exhibit. I will periodically post some of the photos that I have made of them. Cheers to Community Art & Artists!" ~ Marshall Rimann

Park at the south entrance where the boat entrance is located. All of the peace poles are placed south of the boat ramp toward the boardwalk

Event time 7:00-8:00 p.m. The sun should be going behind the trees and not quite as hot

7:00-7:15 p.m. - Opening. Gather, look at Peace Poles, enjoy light refreshments
7:15-7:35 p.m. - Awards Ceremony. Brief program: people can bring their own chairs or stand
7:40 p.m. - Photos of winners. People can continue to stroll through exhibit, visit, etc.
8:00 p.m. - Event wrap-up

Fishing

Suburban Minneapolis. It was great, except for my pesky little brother

Classic French Film- Tell No One - A must see film - well written and acted murder mystery
