Andrew has been a reporter for the Post since 2023. A native of Ohio, he came to the Post after working as a reporter for the Saint Joseph News-Press for more than a decade.
Jerry Henson, a family man and community leader from Parkville, Missouri, passed away on March 14, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on October 25, 1941, in Jackson, Missouri, he was married to Sammie for 60 years and was a proud father and grandfather. His life was marked by a passion for service, education, and family.
Early Life and Family: Jerry was born to Robert and Hazel Henson and was raised in a loving home. He married Sammie Statler in 1964 and together they raised two daughters, Sindie and Merry, and welcomed three grandchildren.
Career and Community Service: After serving in the Army from 1964 to 1966, Jerry earned degrees in business and an MBA, leading to a successful career in human resources. He was an active member of Rotary International for 51 years and volunteered extensively in various community programs.
Personal Interests: Jerry had a lifelong passion for coin collecting. He also enjoyed games, travel, and outdoor.
Services: A celebration of Jerry's life will be held at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, Missouri, on Saturday, March 22, with a visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial at Russell Heights Cemetery with full Military Honors. Another memorial service and celebration of life will be held in the Kansas City area later this spring.
Memorial Contributions: The family suggest memorial contributions be made to Rotary International.
Past President Lenet Compton visited our Club last Friday. Lenet is currently a member of the e-Global Travelers Rotary Club. Lenet says that her club has three defining features - they are 100% on-line, travel and service is their mission and they are the only club in RI that has Associate Members.

April 4, join Rotarians from e-Global Travelers at Heart to Heart International to assemble hygiene kits from 9-11 a.m. Then everyone will gather for our Rotary meeting where e-Global Travelers' president will be our speaker Contact Lenet Compton by March 15 if you would like to participate in the hygiene kit assembly.
Do you have American Airline frequent flyer miles to spare? Donate them toward helping five Montessori-trained teachers from North Carolina defray their travel cost to Cuba where they will spend their spring break training pre-school teachers in Vedado and Miramar. Volunteer hosting opportunity for South African Rotarians on September 18-20 and/or October 1-2. Contact Lenet Comptonby March 28 to learn more about this opportunity. The Rotarians are coming for District 5710's Conference then visiting fellow Rotarians that went to South Africa as part of the 2018 Rotary Friendship Exchange (RFE). Our 8 visitors will learn about Kansas by staying with Rotarians in Marysville, Manhattan, Topeka and Lawrence before returning to Kansas City.
