This Friday our speaker will Richard Ryan, conductor of Lenexa Community Orchestra.

The Lenexa Community Orchestra is composed of volunteer musicians and performs free concerts for the community each summer.

The orchestra began in 2017 and is led by Conductor Richard Ryan. It is a program of the Lenexa Arts Council.

The goal is to build a community of artists who want to create music together. Applications for volunteer musicians are accepted from March to May for each summer concert season.

2025 concert dates will be June 21, July 19 and August 2. Volunteer musicians will meet for evening rehearsals on the two Tuesday and Thursday evenings prior to each concert.

e-Global Travelers Rotary Club
Past President Lenet Compton visited our Club last Friday.  Lenet is currently a member of the e-Global Travelers Rotary Club.  Lenet says that her club has three defining features - they are 100% on-line, travel and service is their mission and they are the only club in RI that has Associate Members.

This club will be visiting Lenexa Rotary on Friday, April 4th, in which their president will be our speaker.  Here are a few opportunities for Lenexa Rotary to participate:

  • April 4, join Rotarians from e-Global Travelers at Heart to Heart International to assemble hygiene kits from 9-11 a.m.  Then everyone will gather for our Rotary meeting where e-Global Travelers' president will be our speaker  Contact Lenet Compton by March 15 if you would like to participate in the hygiene kit assembly.
  • Do you have American Airline frequent flyer miles to spare?  Donate them toward helping five Montessori-trained teachers from North Carolina defray their travel cost to Cuba where they will spend their spring break training pre-school teachers in Vedado and Miramar.  Contact Lenet Compton by March 15.
  • Volunteer hosting opportunity for South African Rotarians on September 18-20 and/or October 1-2. Contact Lenet Compton by March 28 to learn more about this opportunity.  The Rotarians are coming for District 5710's Conference then visiting fellow Rotarians that went to South Africa as part of the 2018 Rotary Friendship Exchange (RFE).  Our 8 visitors will learn about Kansas by staying with Rotarians in Marysville, Manhattan, Topeka and Lawrence before returning to Kansas City.

What is/was your occupation?
CEO of the Lenexa Chamber of Commerce

What books have had a big impact on you?
Genuinely too many to choose from! I was an avid reader from the time I learned how to read, and I’ve slowly been hunting down copies of childhood favorites for my own sentimental collection.

What activities were you involved in high school and college?
You might be surprised to learn I was a multi-sport jock! I was in the academic clubs too

What is your favorite board game, and do you usually win?
I can’t remember the last time I played a board game, but when I was young I played all the classics like Monopoly, Life, and Clue. I’m happy to see board games seem to be making a comeback!

What is the worst movie you have ever seen and who did you see it with?
Hands-down, 2001’s Hannibal – dumb story and stomach-churning gore to the point people were getting sick and walking out. To this day I get queasy thinking about it

What pets have you had and what are their names?
My family is full of pet-lovers, so I’ve been fortunate to have always had an array of cats, dogs, horses, birds, fish, hamsters, gerbils, and such around me – too many to name, but a sweet black lab named Jake was a favorite. He followed me home from the school bus stop (with maybe a little coaxing) and never left

What is your most prized or sentimental possession?  Explain.
My paternal grandmother’s wedding ring set – her wedding ring is engraved with her and my grandfather’s initials and their wedding date. I don’t remember him being an overly romantic man, so I like to think about him being inspired to do that
