More participation from more members makes for a better result. Across the board, please think about what worked, what didn’t work, and what we can do differently to make our Club the best it can be.
Please complete the survey link below by Noon on Thursday (11/17) to get us a jump start on the discussion. The survey is set up as a “Start, Stop, Continue” activity and it shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes. I’ll sort the responses into themes for use during our discussion.
This has been an incredibly busy year and it's hard to believe another year has gone by. I'm thankful for the time spent with my family, my health, and the opportunity of continued personal, professional and spiritual growth.
Gratitude is easy when life is smooth. In these moments, abundance appears more readily. Even the sky seems brighter. It is more challenging to feel grateful when life is bumpy or uncertain. Doing so with gratitude can be even more challenging, and yet it is our most transformative choice. William Shakespeare said it best, “O Lord that lends me life, lend me a heart replete with thankfulness.”
When we approach life with gratitude, things start to shift. Situations that seemed impossible begin to open, sometimes just a little at first. We begin to notice everything from small kindnesses to big achievements.
I am always humbled when I see your contributions and support of our community. You make a difference in peoples’ lives. In those moments, I feel profoundly grateful to be able to call you my friends. Know that as I count my blessings this year, you are among them.
This Thanksgiving, I wish you time with those who mean the most to you. I wish you peace of mind and the happiness that comes from doing the things you love. Most of all, I wish you gratitude. If you're traveling to be with loved ones across town or across the country, may the journey be a safe one and your time filled with laughter. If you're the host this year, may you also have patience!
The Lenexa Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has selected the organization’s long-time Vice-President and Lenexa RotarianAshley Sherard, to succeed retiring CEO Blake Schreck in February of 2023.
An attorney, Sherard has been a fixture in championing the Johnson County business community for more than 25 years. She managed government affairs and advocacy for the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce for five years and Johnson County for one year before coming to the Lenexa Chamber in 2002 as its Vice-President and Director of Legislative Affairs.
“It's an exciting time for our members and partners, knowing that Ashley will lead the Lenexa Chamber of Commerce into the future. Ashley's leadership, knowledge, dedication, and perseverance over the past 20 years serving as Vice-President is proof she is an excellent choice,” said Chamber Board Chairman Jermaine Jamison of Jamison Perry, LLC.
Sherard currently serves on the Board of Directors of both the statewide Kansas Economic Development Alliance and the Johnson County Community College Foundation. She is a member of the Chamber of Commerce Executives of Kansas and the Kansas and Missouri Bar Associations. She has also served on the Board for the Workforce Partnership of Johnson, Leavenworth & Wyandotte Counties and on the University of Kansas-Edwards Campus Workforce Development Advisory Board.
Sherard is a graduate of the University of Kansas, where she was selected for admission to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, and the University of Kansas School of Law. She is also a graduate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Institute for Organization Management and has earned Heartland Economic Development Course certification.
“As a result of her prior involvement, commitment and leadership in many other local and regional civic organizations in addition to our Chamber, Ashley has established herself as a proven and respected leader in our community. I am confident that she will continue the successful culture the Chamber has established and I am excited to see the perspective and new ideas Ashley will bring as CEO,” said Chairman-Elect Mark McFarland of Hinkle Law Firm LLC.
Lenexa Rotary is now accepting entries for the Wes Fry Four Way Test Speech Contest. Please share this information with anyone you know that may be interested. All high school students are eligible to enter. Here are some key dates:
Preliminary speeches will be held on December 5 and 6 in the evening from 7-9 pm at the Park University office at Lenexa City Center. Each student is assigned one of those nights to speak. Four Lenexa Rotary members serve as judges each night.
The top 3 speeches will be presented to the Lenexa Rotary Club during their meeting on December 9th at noon. The scholarship amounts are as follows:
1st place - $2,500
2nd place - $2,000
3rd place - $1,500

Daisy More with the Gardner Rotary Club reached out to us. She is the VP of Service for Johnson County Community College's Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. With this position it means she is in charge of organizing anything related to the community. Her chapter has created a survey to help individual find out their "play style" and from there connecting people to resources in the Kansas City Metro, Overland Park, and Lawrence.
The majority of adults don't know what their "play style" is, but the majority of adults are stressed and/or burnt out, but don't know those are connected. There are eight different styles of play, according to the National Institute of Play: Collector, Artists, Storyteller, Competitor, Director, Explorer, Kinesthete, and the Jokester. Taking this survey helps you find out where you fit in. They will look at various organizations in the area to come up with your personal survey results.

With the holidays coming up, some people neglect the things that they need. But this can be the gift that keeps on giving!
We are collecting egg cartons to be given to a local food pantry. They only need the 12 egg cartons, not 18.
