This Friday our speaker will be Jim Martin with YOUTHrive. Jim is the Vice President of YOUTHrive Corporation and also the Dean of Academics and Professor at the US Army Command and General Staff College.

Youthrive is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is focused on empowering and supporting our foster youth as they transition to adulthood. The organization was established in July 2015 after the founding team and its community partners agreed that the best opportunity for sustainable and scalable impact was to form a new organization that is intently focused on meeting the wants and needs of this specific population of young people. Vision: To see all youth become adults that thrive in their community Mission: To broadly engage the KC community to empower, equip, and support our foster youth as they make the transition to becoming healthy and contributing adults in our community

RLI - NEXT WEEKEND

Rotary Leadership Institute ("RLI") classes will be held three times this Rotary year. Classes are scheduled from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm both days.

RLI seeks to provide quality education in Rotary knowledge and leadership skills to Rotarians interested in developing their Rotary participation and to those identified by Rotary Clubs as having a potential in club leadership. These educational opportunities will teach skills that will benefit the members in their lives and in their volunteer service. All Rotarians are welcome!

District Foundation Dinner

Speech Winner-Update

Julianna Kantner, the winner of our 4 Way Test Speech Contest for the past two years recently sent Rick Morton an email. This is a great example of the benefits of both Interact and the speech contest. Julianna could possibly be president of a Rotary Club sometime in the future!

Hi Mr. Morton,

I hope you are doing well! I just wanted to let you and the Lenexa Rotary Club know that I have joined the up and coming University of Arkansas Rotaract Club.

It is a pretty awesome organization. There are many international students who are members of the organization which makes for an awesome community. Similar to Interact, we have monthly or bi-monthly service projects. Although, my favorite part is the international service project we are working on.

Currently, our club is communicating with a Rotaract club in Mexico about building a school for a community near them. Hopefully we will be able to help with the project in Mexico by spring break or summer. We will be having a conference call with them next week.

Also, the club offers members opportunities to go on 90-day international service trips. Rotaract allows us to go on an exchange where we have an internship in another country and serve with another Rotary club for an entire summer! I am hoping to do something like this within the next few years.

Anyway, I am glad many of you encouraged me to join Rotaract! I will definitely be getting more involved within the next few years.

Need a Make-Up?

When a member misses a meeting, there are several ways to make up for the absence:

Attend a Club function -- board meeting, committee meeting, project, Youth Exchange
Attend a District or International function -- Rotary Youth Exchange, PETs, District Conference
Online make-up - Rotary eclub One - go to www.rotaryeclubone.org
Attend another Rotary Club meeting
- While out-of-town for vacation or business
- In-town around the KC area
- Download the app "Rotary Club Locator" and find a Rotary club anywhere in the world.

Rotarians can make up for an absence at their club meeting within the same Rotary year. If a member attempts to make up at another club and that club either did not meet that week, or changed venues, the club member can let their club's secretary know the date and time of the attempted make-up and it will count as a makeup toward a missed meetings. Make ups also qualify if you attend an eClub meeting. Send all make-ups to our club secretary, Bill McCollum via email.
