A HUGE THANK YOU to the Shawnee Mission Northwest Interact Club!  They supplied 16+ students to help serve and clean-up.

Also a BIG THANK YOU to Bill McCollum for being an outstanding Chair for this annual event and handling the details of using a different venue.

PolioPlus Society

Last year, District 5710 established a PolioPlus Society.  This is where Rotarians pledge to give at least $100 per year to Rotary International PolioPlus.  To become a member all you need to do is complete the PoioPlus Society pledge form.  As a member of the Society you pledge to donate a minimum of $100 each year until the world is certified polio free by the World Health Organization.

Here is a picture from last week.  The following people are members of the PolioPlus Society:  Lenet Compton, Amy Ruo, Tedd Maxfield (Erik Troy is standing in for him), Matt Janes, Steve Nettles, Jason Leib.

To become a member of the PolioPlus Society, polease contact Matt Janes, the Lenexa Rotary PolioPlus Chair, to get a pledge form.

Kathy B. Clark

What is your occupation?

Educator/teacher at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School.  I teach the Gifted Ed Program and also the Interact teacher sponsor.

What was your first job?

My first real job was as a dental hygienist.  From there I went on to Dental Research for Marion Labs in Kansas City.  When the company closed, I went back to school for education.  I went to the University of Kansas.

What is your favorite hobby or pastime?

I love to travel and photography is also a passion. I also love to go to museums and I have been fortunate to visit many museums throughout the world and in the USA.

Where did you grow up and what was it like?

I grew up in Illinois and lived in a couple of small towns.  I was fortunate to live close to grandparents.  They were a big part of my childhood.

What is a favorite movie you always recommend to people?  Why do you love it?

The Notebook with Amy Adams and Ryan Gosling.  I read the book first and I have watched the movie several times.

If you were coming out onto a stage, what would your entrance theme song be?

"Thank You For the Music" by ABBA

What is your favorite type of cuisine to cook or eat?

I love Italian food.  I mostly love cooking Italian recipes, such as homemade pasta, etc.

Peace Poles

2024 Peace Poles Project
Important Dates for Volunteer Opportunities

The jury approved 40 Peace Pole submissions.  The renderings were spectacular with a lot of diversity of where artists took the concept.  It’s really going to be something to see.  The topography of Black Hoof will add a lot to the display and arrangement.

The recipient charity will be Project 1020 and we will be using the auction platform of 32auctions.  Susanne Neely has been awesome in every way across the board.  I can’t say enough good things about her support of Lenexa and Rotary.
