Our speaker this Friday will be Amy Stoecker with Always & Furever Animal Sanctuary.

Imagine a place where old dogs, sick dogs, abused dogs, abandoned dogs, and unwanted dogs all came together, to rest, to live, to play and snuggle. Where meals come morning and night, classical music is always playing and love overflows. The only choice they have to make is which couch or dog bed to lay on and which visitor to pick to smother with kisses. Just a place for dogs to be. To wait in the comforts of a home until they can find a family of their own who won’t throw them away when they are old or sick or even dying. To know they are loved for who they are, at this moment, and then to love us in return regardless of their past. To be the model of forgiveness and in return teach us to be better, kinder humans and to always know that even if in a small way we can always make a difference. This is the place we strive to be. This is our mission. This is Always & Furever. A home for so many souls others discarded and we can’t imagine living without.

Fire Department Open House

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Lenexa Fire Department Open House

September 13, 2025

10:00 - 2:00 p.m.

Fire Station No. 3
24505 Prairie Star Pkwy.

The Open House officially runs from 10am-2pm, although a number of us will be there earlier to set up and typically we run out of food before 2pm.

Rotarians will again be grilling, bunning, foil-rolling, and handing out hot dogs along with chips and bottled water to a very appreciative crowd -- not only is it an important service to the LFD, it's great visibility for our Club!  But it's a big job. We serve more than 1,100 hot dogs.

We have a number of volunteers but we need more help -- if you are available, please consider joining the best hot dog delivery team in the Midwest! Let Ashley Sherard know if she can add you to our volunteer list -- even a couple of hours during the lunch rush is a huge help.
Fire Safety Trailer

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The beginning of October will mark the start of the Fire Safety Trailer visits at Lenexa-area elementary schools in honor of Fire Safety Month. We try to provide a "morning" and "afternoon" Rotarian volunteer for each school visit.

Many of you have volunteered before and know the drill. For those that haven't, we assist the firefighters as they take 3rd graders (fire safety) and 5th graders (severe weather) through the trailer in 30-minute slots. The firefighters do all the talking and crowd control; Rotarians simply support them from a little control room by answering faux 911 calls, operating the smoke machine, etc., and resetting "fire hazards" between classes. There isn't much for us to do for the severe weather presentations. If you haven't volunteered, either the volunteer before you or the firefighters can show you what to do.

The preliminary schedule of volunteer slots is below my signature.  As we get closer to October and schools finalize their class schedules, I can provide more detailed schedules for each school visit.

If you can sign up for a slot (or three!), please respond to Ashley Sherard and she will keep the master schedule.

As always, we appreciate the volunteer spirit of this Club -- please let Ashley know if you can help.

New Badges

From Moe Cougher

Our club will be ordering new name badges for all members.  These are a new design with an engraved plastic rectangle in the shape of the State of Kansas with a star in Lenexa’s location on the map. The new badges will have a magnetic back. These will replace the old round badges with the alligator clip.  Our quantity price for these new badges is slightly over $13 apiece with tax.  If you would like to help defray part of this expense, we would appreciate your donation of $10 per badge, but this is voluntary.  Badges for Past Presidents and District Governors will be a gold background with blue lettering.  For all other members, they will be blue with gold lettering.

We need to know the following information.  Please reply to Moe Cougher and provide:

  • “Badge Name”  - This is first name or nickname by which you prefer to be called.

  • Full Name – First and last name the way you want it to appear on the badge.

  • If you are a Past President or District Governor, indicate the Rotary year that you served in this office; i.e., 2010 – 2011.

  • “Classification” - The work industry that you serve or served’; i.e.” Banking”, “Information Technology”, “Accounting”, “Retail”, “Insurance”, etc.. Add “Retired” if you wish.  Do not use titles like “Vice President”, “Owner”, “CEO”, etc..

Please get this information to Moe Cougher by September 19.  If we have not received your form, we will order the new badge with the same information from your old badge, without change.

There will be samples of the new badges at the front table at the next few meetings.  Bring $10 cash or check payable to Lenexa Rotary Club if you can, or mail a check to:
