Invite a Vet to Lunch

Our meeting on Friday, November 8th will be "Invite a Vet to Lunch." If you know a Veteran, honor them by bringing them to our meeting. Our speaker will be Tom Gray and he will be speaking about "Space and the Military"

Newsletter Editor on Vacation

I will be on vacation for the next couple of weeks and Ben Harber has agreed to do the newsletter. If you have anything to add to the newsletter, please get it to Ben each week by Tuesday afternoon.

I will be thinking of you all as John and I travel around Italy enjoying the sights, food and wine.

November 9 - Peace Pole Auction Walk-Thru - 9:00-10:00 am at Lenexa City Hall Art Gallery

November 15 (evening event) – Live auction event at Lenexa City Hall Art Gallery. Online auction will take place prior to live event. Details to come. Volunteers needed

What is/was your occupation? Retired Funeral Director

What was your first job? At 16, I worked for the Richard A Henry Funeral Home in Battle Creek, Michigan.

What is your favorite hobby or pastime? Playing golf, chess, and my guitars

Where did you grow up and what was it like? I grew up in Battle Creek, Michigan in the 50s and 60s. Lots of kids in our neighborhood and we spent our summers playing baseball and went home when the street lights came on. I left when I graduated from high school and enlisted in the Navy. Visited often, but never lived there again.

What is a favorite movie you always recommend to people? Why do you love it? It’s a Wonderful Life. A classic that we watch every Christmas Eve! There's sex and death here, elation and depression, hope and despair. It uplifts the spirit! Also, my father was in the film industry at the time and worked on the film set as a member of the wardrobe department.

If you were coming out onto a stage, what would your entrance theme song be? Ride of the Valkyries.

What is your favorite type of cuisine to cook or eat? I like to smoke meat and cook on the grill! My favorite food is Italian.
