This Friday . . .

This Friday, our speaker will be Phil Hammond.  He will be speaking to us about the California Trail Diary of 1850 of Dr. William A. Gordon.  Dr. Gordon was age 29 in 1850.  During his life he was a Missouri State Legislator, County Collector and great great uncle of Nancy Becker.

Dr. Gordon journied by horseback and caravan from Lexington, Missouri, to the Gold Fields of California in 1850.  He came back by boat around Cape Horn and up the Mississippi then the Missouri River to Lexington.

SMNW Interact Club
The Shawnee Mission Northwest Interact Club will be going on a trip to Puerto Rico from June 26-July 2, 2023.  They are doing this with our friend and fellow Rotarian, Jorge Coromac and Woodland Charities.  The Club will meet up with the local Interact Club in Puerto Rico and they will also be distributing water filters to the local community.

They are in the process of raising money for this trip and they have requested a grant from the Lenexa Rotary Foundation.  In addition to this grant, they had a restaurant fundraiser last Friday and they are thinking of many other ways to raise money.

As you know, this Interact club was resurrected and has only been meeting for a few months.  It is very impressive that they organized the club and had many activities in such a short amount of time.  Lenexa Rotary started this club many years ago and because of Covid, the club members graduated and did not carry one.  A HUGE thanks to the teacher sponsor, Kathy Clark, for helping get this club going again.

A few weeks ago, Lenexa Rotary Foundation President, Christopher Coleman, said that any members who would like to donate to the SMNW Interact for this trip, they can do so by making a donation to the Lenexa Rotary Foundation.  When you make out a check, please write "Interact" on the memo line.  Please seriously consider donating to this energetic group of Interactors.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Christopher Coleman, Greg Peterson or Amy Ruo.
