Our speaker will be Christopher Leitch the Community Relations Director with the Johnson County Library. Some of the things Christopher is in charge of is:
Communication, media relations, volunteer/member liaison for 13-branch County library system.
- Organizational Public Information Officer media relations for print, broadcast, new media outlets.
- Special internal and external communication planning for system-wide, large scale projects such as building renovation, library master planning, hours changes and new service introductions.
- Liaison with Board and staff, Friends of Johnson County Library.
- Department interim manager during organizational restructuring.
- Organizational communication liaison for County-level PIO group.
Plan to arrive 15 min before your shift so you can review what the firefighters would like you to do. Remember, 3rd graders receive fire safety instruction (generally you’ll re-set the fire hazards the kids have corrected in each room, answer a mock 911 call (script provided), while 5th graders receive storm safety instruction.
World Polio Day is observed on October 24 every year to raise awareness for polio vaccination and eradication of polio. The World Polio Day was established by Rotary International over a decade ago to commemorate the birth of Jonas Salk who led the first team to develop a vaccine against poliomyelitis.

District 5710 PolioPlus Society
Last year, District 5710 established a PolioPlus Society. This is where Rotarians pledge to give at least $100 per year to Rotary International PolioPlus. Below is more information regarding the PolioPlus Society. Please seriously consider becoming a member of the PolioPlus Society.
Village West Rotarians is having a Pints for Polio event on October 27, 2022, from 4:00-9:00 pm at The Fuel House - Olde Mill Properties (611 W 2nd Street, Bonner Springs) to raise money to eradicate polio! Outfield Beer Company is donating $1 of every beer purchased and Olde Mill Ice Cream is donating 10% of sales to the cause. Plus 50/50 raffle, Quentin's BBQ, Ten & Two Coffee Bar, and tours of the members' only section of the Fuel House.
Lenexa Rotary is now accepting entries for the Wes Fry Four Way Test Speech Contest. Please share this information with anyone you know that may be interested. All high school students are eligible to enter. Here are some key dates:
We hold two Help Sessions to help the students make sure they understand the topic. Those will be held November 10 and 14 in the evening.
Then the preliminary speeches will be held on December 5 and 6 in the evening. Each student is assigned one of those nights to speak. Four Lenexa Rotary members serve as judges each night.
The top 3 speeches will be presented to the Lenexa Rotary Club during their meeting on December 9th at noon. The scholarship amounts are as follows:
1st place - $2,500
2nd place - $2,000
3rd place - $1,500

We are collecting egg cartons to be given to a local food pantry. They only need the 12 egg cartons, not 18.
