Our speaker this Friday will be VJ Lively, Operations Director with Medical Supplies Network, Inc.

Tulsa, Oklahoma businessman, Jack Maxwell, discovered the needs of developing countries when he began recruiting physical therapists from around the world. In his travels, he discovered that the medical equipment being used in these developing countries was severely outdated. He also met doctors and nurses who were frustrated because they did not have the means at their disposal to provide the kind of care they knew the patients needed.

Due to advancing technology, most facilities in the United States are continually upgrading their equipment. Therefore, surplus medical equipment with still many years of operating life become available for developing countries rather than sitting idle in warehouses. What is second hand surplus in the United States is state-of-the-art equipment to the healing needs of the former Soviet Republic States, Central and South America, Mexico, South Africa and countless other countries.

Committed to the ideals of service, Jack founded a project in 1993 within the “World Community Service” Committee of the Rotary Club of Tulsa. Soon Rotarians throughout District 6110 supported this project. This District has 5,000 Rotarians in 80 clubs from the four corners of Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri and Kansas. The Medical Supplies Network was incorporated and received its 501-c-3 non-profit status. Two warehouses were purchased, and a Board of Directors made up of 14 Rotarians from District 6110 now directs the operations of M.S.N.I.

Rotarians throughout District 6110 utilize their network to locate medical equipment and disposable supplies. These donations are packaged, inventoried, weighed and shipped to developing countries free of charge.

With generous donations of materials, money, volunteer time and transportation, thousands of lives are being saved by the efforts of M.S.N.I. Seventy-three containers have been shipped to 37 different countries as of 2009.

Lenexa Rotary's Craig's Crossing
Recently Lenet Compton and Sarah Donohoe had the opportunity to speak with Jenny Doty, Lenexa Parks & Recreation Supervisor - Nature, about the Craig's Crossing, Lenexa Rotary Club Scenic Outlook.  They were ecstatic to learn it is one of Jenny's favorite spots and that the trail maintenance has moved to the top of the department's To-Do list.  YAY!
Background - for those of you that were not in the club - it was built with a bucket brigade.  Maintenance is still done with a bucket brigade requiring A LOT of volunteer, strong backs.  Coordinating that effort is difficult and therefore why our trail doesn't stay in the best shape.  The bad news is you currently can't even see the trailhead.  The good news is it should be navigable this summer!
The Newsletter Editor could not get the picture to rotate.  Sorry!
Due to the impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic, there is no safe option to hold the Rotary Club of Lenexa ShrimpFest in early 2021.  As a Committee and as a Club, we have discussed various options and alternatives, and here is your chance to weigh in and be counted.
Please fill in this brief  SURVEY
As a reminder, there is no danger to the Lenexa Rotary Foundation.  Through careful management, the Foundation remains fiscally sound, and we are not in danger of being unable to carry out the Club's good work, even without our largest annual fundraiser.
Thank you for working with us and looking forward to better days.
