This Friday our speaker will be Ross Dessert with Uplift.

Uplift Organization is a mobile street outreach for the homeless of Kansas City. Three nights a week, they take four Sprinter vans loaded with food, clothing, and other essential supplies out to the homeless.

They meet them at parks, under bridges, at their camps, or wherever they are. They typically serve 250-400 people each night and we never miss a night!

Uplift was started 35 years ago in 1990. They are 100% donation-based and run completely by volunteers. Uplift has no paid staff and is not affiliated with any particular church or religious organization. Uplift believes in the power of unconditional love and kindness. They welcome all people of good will to join us in this work!

They are not funded by federal, state or local government grants or sponsored by other organizations and/or agencies.

Our meeting on May 9th will be a tour of the new Lenexa Justice Center

17371 Prairie Star Parkway

Tour begins at 12:00 noon

We will be getting box lunches for the members attending the tour. We will eat them after the tour at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park OR you can take the box lunch and go!

Lunch choices are:

Smoked Turkey & Cheddar on White with a chipotle mayo

Roast Beef & Swiss on Wheat served with a horseradish aioli

Grilled Chicken Caesar Wrap

All served with assorted chips, pasta salad, coleslaw, cookie and water

Shawnee Mission Northwest Interact club will be going to Puerto Rico with Jorge Coromac and Woodland Charities on June 9-14, 2025. Greg Peterson and Steve Adams will also be going.

I don’t have time to read books

What activities were you involved in high school and college?

Attended Edina High School in Minnesota, where I met Vickie. Graduated from U of Minnesota, graduate degree in Healthcare Administration

What is your favorite board game, and do you usually win?

Don’t play much in board games - will play any kind of card or dice games

What is the worst movie you have ever seen and who did you see it with?

I’ve seen some real stinkers - Water World was one I couldn’t watch for long

What pets have you had and what are their names?

Same pets as Vickie - black cats
