What was your first job?
I started working at the funeral home at a young age - pulling weeds, cleaning bathrooms, mowing grass, working visitations
What is your favorite hobby or pastime?
I am very involved with genealogy and have an extensive family tree (thanks to my dad!). I also like to travel and enjoy baking, cooking and reading
Where did you grow up and what was it like?
I grew up in Downtown Shawnee in a house which was right behind the funeral home and then we moved only a block away in 1970. My friends would call my mom "June Cleaver" - she always looked nice and was nice to everyone. We had great neighbors - we rode bikes all around Shawnee, had numerous Kool-Aid stands, and put on "shows" for neighbors. Being in the funeral business, my parents were very involved in Shawnee and the surrounding cities. Shawnee and Lenexa were smaller cities in the 1960s and 1970s and it seemed we knew mostly everyone. I walked to Flint Elementary and also Hocker Grove Junior High. It was a great childhood.
What is a favorite movie you always recommend to people? Why do you love it?
It is hard to choose just one - Mr. Holland's Opus -because of the impact of children being involved in music and the affect it has on the lives. And I LOVE the Rocky movies. I don't know what it is but I can watch them over and over.
If you were coming out onto a stage, what would your entrance theme song be?
Another hard question, but I would say I Feel the Earth Move by Carole King
What is your favorite type of cuisine to cook or eat?
I really enjoy baking - pies, cookies, cakes, cupcakes, crisps, etc. However, my favorite type of cuisine to cook would be a big pot of meatballs and sauce. My favorite food to eat would be fish/seafood, especially Alaskan Halibut
