Beer Can Collection

IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN!

Last week Sergeant-At-Arms, Fred Spears, passed out beer cans to members in attendance.  This year the proceeds from this collection will go to the Stop Human Trafficking campaign.  Here is what to do:

Five easy steps:
  • Get your can from Fred
  • Drink it, or cook / grill with it
  • Clean the can and DRY the can
  • Fill the can with money – dimes & quarters usually add up to ~$75; cash and checks are fine too
  • Return to Fred through the end of September
  • Fred will give you another can and you can fill it up again or just drink it!
Dues & Meals Payment

If you want to pay your dues or meals with a credit card, please contact Nathalie Brech or Bill McCollum and give them your card number and they can process the payment over the phone.

We will be selling food and drinks along-side the Lenexa Historical Society.  We have supported the Historical Society through the years with donations for the construction of the Legler Barn Museum and other projects.  Funds raised will be to a future project which is looking like an addition to the Museum, Black Hoof Park or new museum displays.

Times are only 2 hour shifts.  Help support the Lenexa Historical Society by signing up for a shift.  Contact Phil Hammond if you are interested in helping.

The Shawnee Mission College Clinic is BACK!  We have helped on this project for many years.  Lenexa Rotary has given money and will help with manpower at the Shawnee Mission College Clinic.   Here are some specifics:

  • NEED 6-12 volunteers
  • Arrive around 5:00 p.m. and eat at a complimentary buffet
  • Distribute bottled water around to the room and the gym to all the college representatives
  • "Guard" the front doors and distribute maps, stir up enthusiasm in the awaiting hordes & coerce them generally into single file lines.
  • Staff our table to promote the Wes Fry 4 Way Test Speech Contest where the top 3 contestants get scholarship money
  • Drift away prior to 7:00 p.m.
Please contact Matt Janes if you are interested in helping.
Rotary TEAM Training!

Well, another year has flown by and it is once again time for TEAM Training! TEAM Training focuses on The Rotary Foundation, membership, and public image, with leadership and training as supporting areas of emphasis. This year our theme will be “Imagine Change in Your Rotary Club”.

The training will take place on Saturday, August 20, 2022, from 8:30am to 1:30pm, once again at the Cider Gallery in Lawrence, Kansas. We will provide donuts and coffee when you arrive (so we hope you will arrive a bit early to eat, drink and mingle!) and a complimentary brunch, complete with mimosas and Bloody Marys, will be served.

This annual event is open to all Rotarians at no cost, and Rotarians of twenty years or those who became Rotarians last week will all benefit! Come to meet other Rotarians, share Rotary experiences, and learn more about Rotary and our opportunities to accomplish even more by implementing change. The registration link is below, and we hope to see you there!

Fresh Start Kits for Human Trafficking Victims

I am requesting your help on ways to assist local victims of Human Trafficking. One organization that provides assistance is Rended Heart in Grandview MO. They are in need of up to 80 "Fresh Start Kits". These kits are assembled in duffel bags and contain basic essentials (clothing, toiletries, etc.) for victims to start a new life. Rended Heart has suggested 20 each of small, medium, large, and 15 XL and 5 XXL sizes. I have attached a list of these items and a "Fresh Start Guide" to provide additional information. I request that next time you are out shopping, or happen to know where we can get these items at a reasonable cost, that you let me know. Once I can determine the cost per duffle we can proceed to the next step - funding the project. To that end, if you have ideas on how to fundraise or partner with another club (e.g., Western Johnson County, Shawnee) that you let me know.

Finally, if some members would like to help me organize this project I welcome the help.

Thank you for your assistance.

Collecting Egg Cartons
We are collecting egg cartons to be given to a local food pantry.  They only need the 12 egg cartons, not 18.

Human Trafficking-Justice U
In 2017, Rotary International took on the call to End Human Trafficking.  You are invited to earn your Human Trafficking Awareness badge from Justice U.  In one hour, you will learn what human trafficking is, how to see it, and how to report it.  And if you want to earn your full digital certification by taking all three courses offered in the Learn How to End Human Trafficking series on Justice U, you can use the code ROTARYSWARM to gain free access to these courses + even more resources from Engage Together, our partners in this effort.  Go here to sign up and learn more:  https://learnwithjusticeu.com/courses/
