Lenexa Community Days Parade

The Lenexa Community Days Parade is THIS MONDAY, July 4th at 10:00 a.m. in Old Town Lenexa.

We have 2 staging numbers: #4 will be the truck pulling the Safety Trailer and #5 will be the Safety Trailer. Staging is on 95th Street west of Pflumm and then on Santa Fe Trail Dr. Look for the Safety Trailer. A message from your outgoing President . . .

It has been my honor and pleasure to serve as the President of Lenexa Rotary this past year. At last year's annual dinner I stated 3 goals:

Grow membership;
Have one new project; and
Receive the Rotary International Presidential Citation.

I am happy to report that with EVERYONE's help we achieved all three goals -- we installed 6 new members and grew by 3 members; we had 2 new projects - Coats for Kids and Rotary Day for PolioPlus; and lastly, our club received the RI Presidential Citation. THANK YOU to all of you for helping me meet these goals.

My family has a long history in Rotary and being involved in the community. My grandfather, E. Paul Amos, helped start Shawnee Mission Rotary in 1946; my dad, Gene Amos, was 14th President of Lenexa Rotary and a Past District Governor; my brother, Gregg Amos, is a current member of Shawnee Mission Rotary; my sister, Joni Pflumm is a current member of Shawnee Rotary; and my husband, John, is a member and current president of Johnson County Rotary. My dad, Gene Amos, always said "we owe a debt to our community -- and being involved is our way of repaying that debt.

Before my dad passed away in July of 2009 he told my sister, Joni Pflumm, that it was his wish that Lenexa Rotary continue to be a vibrant club.

I joined Lenexa Rotary in 2010. Becca Coleman contacted me several times and asked me to join but I wasn't ready. Suddenly in August I called Becca and said I was ready. I was installed on August 20, 2010, and as I was leaving the meeting that day it occurred to me that it was my dad's birthday. Needless to say, I think he had some intervention in my decision. I truly believe that he would be very proud of what Lenexa Rotary is today.

Lenexa Rotary is like a fine-tuned machine -- everyone keeps things going from year to year and each person has their special part. Without all of YOU this would not be possible. THANK YOU for being supportive of me this past year and I look forward to continuing to our work in the community.

Steve retired in 2015 from Applied Measurement Professionals in Olathe. AMP helps state governments and credentialing organizations develop and administer their licensing/certification examinations programs. His sponsor was Greg Peterson.

Mike is a retired dentist who had an office in Overland Park. His sponsor was Moe Cougher.

Bryan Sarff is the owner of True Investment in Overland Park. His sponsor was Becca Coleman.

Erik Troy - Joined June 10th

Erik Troy is a professional engineer with Terracon. His sponsor was Craig Denny.

Charles Earnest - Joined June 24th

Charles Earnest is a financial adviser with Edward Jones. His sponsor was Amy Ruo.

Lenexa Rotary 50th Anniversary

On February 6, 2017, Lenexa Rotary will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary! A committee is being formed to come up with ideas on how to celebrate this milestone. If you are interested in being on the committee, please contact Amy Ruo at amyruo62@gmail.com.

During the meeting if you think of some thing that you want to share, feel free to jot it down on the YPad -- a random thought, a suggestion, a compliment, an idea for a speaker, a joke, etc. Each week President Amy will pick up the YPads and report any messages in the newsletter and at the following meeting.

There is a way to access security to buzz yourself in if Don Simmons is not present.

Read the instructions, and then access Security by arrowing up to the S’s, stop when on “Security” -- press the call button and Security will buzz you in after you state your name plus saying you are a Lenexa Rotarian.

Food service line opens at 11:45 a.m. For those who have business pressure they can arrive at 11:40 a.m. starting with salad, eat at 11:45 a.m. and be gone by 11:50 a.m. and still record for attendance. As you leave, be sure to check with the Secretary to ensure your attendance is recorded.
