Amy Amos Ruo

Occupation (or former):  Currently the Office Manager at Amos Family Funeral Home & Crematory.  Previously a paralegal at a law firm in St. Louis, Missouri.

Tell us about your family:  Married to husband John for 33 years.  John is a  Senior Project Manager/Business Analyst at Zurich Insurance.  Daughter, Toni, 28, is a CPA and is currently in her last year of law school at the University of Kansas.  She will be focusing on tax law and has a job with a law firm on the Country Club Plaza after she passes the Bar.  Son, Philip, 27, is a data analyst at Oracle (Cerner), specializing in data usability.  He got married this past June to Claire Elliott, who is a speech language pathologist at Truman High School in Independence, Missouri.

When did you join Rotary:    August 20, 2010 (my dad's birthday)

Why did you join Rotary:      My family has been involved in Rotary for over 76 years.  My dad, Gene Amos was a member of Lenexa Rotary (President 1980-81) and Past District Governor (1985-86); my husband is a member of Shawnee Rotary and Past President of Johnson County Rotary; sister, Joni Pflumm, member and Past President of Shawnee Rotary; and my brother, Gregg Amos a member and Past President of Shawnee Mission Rotary.  My grandfather, E. Paul Amos, started Shawnee Mission Rotary in 1946.

What Rotary offices have you held: President 2015-16; Secretary 2022-23; current Chair of Lenexa Rotary Foundation

What is your favorite Rotary memory or project?  It would have to say ShrimpFest.  I remember coming to ShrimpFest many years before becoming a member.  I remember seeing all the former members, Tom Sherard, Charlie Smith, Wes Fry, John Foster and Bruce Hodges when I would go to Lenexa Rotary meetings and events when they met at the Lenexa Holiday Inn.

When you are not working, how do you spend your time?  I enjoy cooking/baking, traveling, being involved in my community, and genealogy research.  Since Covid in 2020, John and I have been visiting cemeteries of my ancestors.  We have been to cemeteries in Kansas, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.  We still have some more to see!
Marshall Rimann in White Christmas

The beautiful music of Irving Berlin is a deeply ingrained part of our holiday season. His great works are part of the soundtrack of our days. As gorgeous as "Happy Holidays", "White Christmas" and the other wonderful songs are when we hear them on the radio, it cannot compare with experiencing them performed live on stage, by a cast of 30 professional singers and dancers accompanied by an orchestra of 20 musicians. Treat yourself and your family to "Irving Berlin's White Christmas", presented by MTKC-Pro, the professional wing of Music Theatre Kansas City. Tickets are available at www.mtkc.org/tickets
Holiday Cheers!

No more Egg Cartons Needed
Thank you for your support of the Village Church Food Pantry with egg carton donations. Apparently, your generosity has overwhelmed the pantry for the time being. Please discontinue your donations until future notice.
Thanks again for your support. I will update you as the need arises in the future.
