Amy Amos Ruo What is/was your occupation? Office Manager of Amos Family Funeral Home. The Amos Family Funeral Home has been in business for 79 years at the same location. Through the years we have had funeral homes in DeSoto, Olathe and Lenexa. My grandparents, E. Paul and Hazel Amos opened the business on May 25, 1946. My dad Gene and then my brother Gregg ran the business and now my nephew Parker is the owner. We are the only funeral home in Johnson County that is still owned by the founding family What books have had a big impact on you? I love to read, so this is a hard question. Historical Fiction is my favorite, but in my current book club, the members have opened me up to other genres. I really like the author Kristin Hannah. Her book The Nightingale is one of my favorites What activities were you involved in high school and college? Music was my activity. I started playing piano at the age of 5 and changed over to flute in 4th grade. The band director at SM Northwest was my private lesson teacher and in the 8th grade he said they needed more saxophones in marching band, so he taught me saxophone. I played it for one year in marching band and then switched back to flute and piccolo - those were lighter instruments to carry! What is your favorite board game, and do you usually win? I love board games. One of my favorites is Trivial Pursuit (if John is on my team, I will win) but I am open to just about any board or card game. John and I also like to play Cribbage - especially on vacation What is the worst movie you have ever seen and who did you see it with? Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. I saw it with my two kids. What pets have you had and what are their names? The only pets I had growing up were two miniature turtles - Myrtle and Girdle - and I didn't have them for long. My sister, Joni Pflumm, had a parakeet named Pepper. My mom grew up on a farm and only had outdoor pets and thought that is where they belonged My husband also didn't grow up with pets, so, therefore, we didn't have any pets with our children What is your most prized or sentimental possession? Explain. My dad's genealogy book and research records. In the late 1970s he traveled around the U.S doing genealogy research and wrote a book in 1980. Because of all of his efforts, I have been able to pick it up and find more ancestors. Another prized possession is my mom's piano music and handwritten recipe cards. |
