Silent Auction Items and Gift Cards
Committee Chairs - Moe Cougher & Fred Spears

NEED:  LOTS of merchandise and gift card/certificate donations to make our bingo games and silent auction successful.
Consumer electronics - sports memorabilia and tickets to sporting events - gift cards to local merchants and restaurants - gift baskets with wine and food items - jewelry.  Please donate new, unused items and not garage sale/thrift shop material.

Please inform Moe Cougher of donations by February 17th.  It is not necessary to bring every item (particularly physically large ones) to a club meeting, but we do need to know about most if not all by 2/17.  We need to know who made the donation and each item's approximate retail value.  We welcome personal donations as well as those from businesses.

Business/Organization of the Year Award
Committee Chair - Phil Hammond

This is given out every year at ShrimpFest.  The award began in 2012 as an award for a business that practices the 4-Way Test.  Phil Hammond is in charge of this and is looking for nominations.  This award will honor a "business's body of work" of actions, decisions, or program that demonstrates integrity, conviction, and moral courage in business; and community and/or international service, understanding, goodwill and peace.

What is/was your occupation?
City Manager of the City of Lenexa since 2019. I have been with Lenexa for almost 28 years in a variety of positions ranging from Assistant City Attorney to Community Development Director

What books have had a big impact on you?
I’m an avid reader, averaging over 20 books a year, which is down significantly from what I used to read annually before law school broke me. I have been impacted in innumerable ways by many of the books I’ve read, so it is difficult for me to narrow it down to a manageable list. The most recent book that I read which I found to be quite impactful was The Small and the Mighty: Twelve Unsung Americans Who Change the Course of History, from the Founding to the Civil Rights Movement, by Sharon McMahon. As the name implies, it highlights the impact individuals can have and is so well written, inspiring and uplifting. Highly recommend!

What activities were you involved in high school and college?
I went to a small high school in southeast Kansas and had only 31 people in my graduating class. That’s a long-winded way of saying I was involved in everything from Future Farmers of America, Future Homemakers of America, volleyball, basketball, 4H, band, pep club…you name it.  In college, I was very involved in my sorority – Sigma Sigma Sigma, the Greek and Panhellenic Councils, Marketing Club, Freshman Orientation Leaders and Student Government

What is your favorite board game, and do you usually win?
I don’t play a lot of board games

What is the worst movie you have ever seen and who did you see it with?
I’ve only ever left in the middle of one movie – Bright Lights, Big City. I went to see it in 1988 with my now-husband, Keith, and we both just hated it from the beginning – I honestly don’t remember with any specificity what we hated about it, but we got up and walked out about halfway through, which I have never done before or since.

What pets have you had and what are their names?
Currently, we have 1 year old chocolate lab named Sadie. She is our third chocolate lab – Tanner and Barley were #1 and #2 – and our first female and we find her to be much judgier than her brothers

What is your most prized or sentimental possession?  Explain.
My late mother’s wedding ring. We were a farm family and the gold bands on the wedding ring set she got when she and my father were married in 1949 wore completely through after years of hard, manual farm work. In the 60’s, she took the diamonds from that wedding set and designed a one-of-a-kind wide, sturdy gold band with the diamonds in a silver chevron setting on the top. It is stunningly beautiful, completely unique and when I wear it, which I typically only do for special occasions, I can feel her strength and love coming through it
