Our speaker this Friday will be Bob Hennecke, Kansas City's JCC Maccabi Games Director.
Kansas City will be a host of the 2026 JCC Maccabi Games, and to start the programming, the entire community is invited to join the official kickoff celebration on Sunday, Oct. 5, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at The J.
The JCC Maccabi Games are the world’s largest Jewish youth sporting event, an Olympic-style competition that brings together thousands of Jewish teens from across the globe.
October will mark the start of the Lenexa Fire Department's Fire Safety Trailer visits at Lenexa-area elementary schools in honor of Fire Safety Month.
We assist the firefighters as they take 3rd graders (fire safety) and 5th graders (severe weather) through the trailer in 30-minute slots. The firefighters do all the talking and crowd control; Rotarians simply support them from a little control room by answering faux 911 calls, operating the smoke machine, etc, and resetting "fire hazards" between classes. There isn't much for us to do for the severe weather presentations.

As we get closer to October and schools finalize the actual class schedules, Ashley Sherard will provide more detailed schedules for each school visit.
As you know, at each weekly meeting, Sergeant-At-Arms Fred Spears collects $1.00 from each person which is a "weekly fine". The money is then donated to the Lenexa Rotary Foundation. BUT in place of having to make sure you have $1.00 at each meeting, you can purchase a Fine Card. The Fine Card costs $65 for the Rotary year (July-June) and Fred can also give you a tax receipt. Fred will be selling them at our weekly meeting. If you write a check, make it payable to Lenexa Rotary Foundation.
This Newsletter Editor will be taking a 2-week road trip to Michigan, Quebec, New England and everywhere in between. During my absence Ben Harber will be doing the weekly newsletter and Pat Thomas and Moe Cougher will be filling in at the meeting. See you all on August 28th!
What is/was your job or profession? I currently have two jobs, I am a Commercial Real Agent and Acting CFO for the Dharod Group, a 140,000,000 in sales Burger King and Denny’s Franchise operation in 7 states. Which also owns 70,000,000 in real estate, mostly properties that the BK and Denny’s operate out of.
What is your favorite sports team(s) and why? KC Current, because they are a hometown team that is competitive.
What is your favorite vacation destination, and why? Too numerous to mention, but because of many years of memories with our kids and gkids, I would have to say Steamboat Springs, which we attended for a week each years during the summer for 16 years. For some reason, this year everyone reminisced over the years. Our special place.

Make a comment about Rotary. I joined Lenexa Rotary 11-1-1980. I was fortunate to know a lot of our founding members. I have been asked to perform many of Lenexa Rotary’s Offices. Our Club is made up of what any Club needs, Leaders, organizers, worker bees and great donors to our projects, The Lenexa Rotary Foundation and The Rotary International Foundation. I have been so lucky.
