Our speaker this Friday will be Kathy Sudekis, with American Society of Travel Advisors.

Kathy Sudeikis manages company relations for Acendas Travel with a variety of constituents including media, vendors, travel industry representatives and organizations and civic organizations primarily in Kansas City. A long-time travel advisor herself of 50-plus years, Kathy joined Acendas Travel in 1993. She served as president of the American Society of Travel Advisors from 2004-06. She has won numerous industry awards including multiple selections as one of the World’s Top Agents by Travel + Leisure.

Sudeikis is heavily involved in the Kansas City Community, including her volunteering for Gilda’s Club, a Cancer Support Group. Sudeikis herself is a cancer survivor. Of course, she might best be known for her work in helping to organize “The Big Slick,” a charity event that features actors and comedians with Kansas City roots that helps to fund programs at Children’s Mercy Hospital. One of those stars is Sudeikis’s son Jason.

TURN IN YOUR CANS!

Sergeant-At-Arms Fred Spears has been distributing beer and soda cans as part of our annual fundraiser.

Each year, the President-Elect selects a charity to receive the funds raised. Past recipients have included Operation BBQ Relief, school supply drives for inner-city students, and Rise Against Hunger.

This year, President-Elect Kevin Day has selected Rosehill Elementary School in Lenexa to receive our donation, which they will use to support their current needs.

What do I do with this beer/soda can?  The can is used to collect change, dollar bills or a check.

What is the process?  Fill the can - Rinse the can - Dry out the can - Fill with change/bills/check - Write your name on the can - Return to Fred Spears - Receive another can to fill up or just drink

What is the Deadline?  Return to Fred by July 17th

If you are at a trivia night, what category would you know most about?
... I will answer that with trivia ==>

During the pandemic my nephew, Eric, organized zoom meetings / trivia matches for 9 weeks, each lasting an hour.

There were 9 base families, with a total of 28 members, so each week a group of 3 could choose their own category:  3 rounds of 10 questions for each.  Eric worked it out so that folks would answer the questions; submit to his house wherein he and his wife would rapidly tabulate the correct answers and overall winner.  Also, each week Eric worked it out to scramble the family members so we could talk amongst ourselves and never had the same group again.

Guess who . . . was a member of the winning team in 8 of the 9 weeks, and only lost that ONE by a single point (on a questionable judgment call, ha) to a team spearheaded by my son, Michael?

So, I am pretty good at listening to ideas and determining the best course of action.
