Our speaker this Friday will be James Stowe, Ph.D., with the Center for Practical Bioethics.
 
James Stowe, PhD, is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Center for Practical Bioethics, a nonprofit organization that raises and responds to ethical issues and health and healthcare through the applied practice of bioethics. In this role, he strives to ensure that ethics are integral to the social conditions that affect health and healthcare and all aspects of patient care.

Invite a Vet to Lunch
 
Our meeting on Friday, November 8th will be "Invite a Vet to Lunch."  If you know a Veteran, honor them by bringing them to our meeting.  Our speaker will be Tom Gray and he will be speaking about "Space and the Military"
 
Please let Ben Harber know if you will be bringing a guest.
Hurricane Helene Relief
 
 
Lenexa Rotary's Response to Hurricane Helene
 
In the past when disaster strikes, Lenexa Rotary likes to reach out to local Rotary clubs and other reputable organizations to offer financial support.  This time in response to Hurricane Helene in North Carolina we will be collecting donations to be made to the following organizations.  Please make your checks out to Rotary Club of Lenexa Foundation and give to Phil Hammond and our Foundation will forward a check to the organizations.
 
Heart to Heart International
Rotary Club of Asheville
UNC Asheville - Student Government Projects
 
Additionally, Lenexa Rotary will be assembling Hygiene Kits at Heart to Heart International.  These Hygiene Kits are provided to devastated areas.  If you would like to volunteer, please contact Phil Hammond.

I will be on vacation for the next couple of weeks and Ben Harber has agreed to do the newsletter.  If you have anything to add to the newsletter, please get it to Ben each week by Tuesday afternoon. 
 
I will be thinking of you all as John and I travel around Italy enjoying the sights, food and wine.

November 9 - Peace Pole Auction Walk-Thru - 9:00-10:00 am at Lenexa City Hall Art Gallery
 
November 15 (evening event) – Live auction event at Lenexa City Hall Art Gallery. Online auction will take place prior to live event. Details to come.  Volunteers needed

What is/was your occupation?
Teacher . . . Elementary Special Education
 
What was your first job?
Clerical job in the Department of Librarianship at Emporia State (then known as Kansas State Teachers College)
 
What is your favorite hobby or pastime?
I love reading.  Always have a good book going!  I also like playing pickle ball and going to group fitness classes at the gym
 
Where did you grow up and what was it like?
I grew up in Anthony, Kansas (60 miles southwest of Wichita).  It was typical small-town life -- lots of fun and school activities with friends
 
What is a favorite movie you always recommend to people? Why do you love it?
The movie Camelot has always been a favorite of mine.  I love the music, and it always makes me cry
 
If you were coming out onto a stage, what would your entrance theme song be?
Celebration! by Kool and the Gang.  Celebrate good times, come on!
 
What is your favorite type of cuisine to cook or eat?
I love Italian food and Mexican food -- preferably eaten at a restaurant!
