Rotary Matters
World Interact Week

World Interact Week is celebrated October 30 - November 5 to commemorate the founding of the first Interact club in 1962. Interact clubs bring together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self.

Lenexa Rotary is lucky to have a vibrant Interact Club at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School.

Jody Hammond

Occupation (or former):  Special Education Teacher at Mill Creek Elementary in Lenexa

Tell us about yourself:  I have been married to Phil Hammond for 52 years.  We have two daughters, Tasha and Tara.  We have one son, Trevor.  We have nine grandchildren, 5 boys and 4 girls

When did you join Rotary:   June 2023

Why did you join Rotary: I have helped out with several Rotary projects over the years because of Phil's involvement.  I have enjoyed the people and the projects, and I wanted to be involved as an active member.

What Rotary offices have you held: None

What is your favorite Rotary memory or project?  The project I have enjoyed the most is the Rise Against Hunger project.  We have had several of our grandchildren help with this, and it has been a good experience for them.  It was very rewarding to see so many people working together to accomplish such a meaningful goal.

When you are not working, how do you spend your time?  I like to go to classes at the local gym.  I also enjoy playing pickleball, playing bridge, and reading.  Phil and I enjoy traveling.  Of course, I also love attending sports and activities in which my grandchildren are involved.
