Book Drive

Our Sergeant-At-Arms, Fred Spears, is starting a Book Drive to benefit the Learn to Read program, whose representatives spoke at our Club several weeks ago.

The drive will run through October. Fred will have a collection bucket at our upcoming meetings for new or gently used books.  Information sheets with a preferred book list will be available on the tables at this week's meeting. If you prefer to make a monetary contribution to purchase books, donations will also be accepted that way.  Thank you for your support.

Fred stated that he would like to have a pile of books 20 feet high!

What is/was your job or profession?
I had two professions. The first was in public relations, with a hospice in Colorado Springs, a college prep school in Omaha and at YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park. The second was as a hikemaster (hiking guide) for YMCA of the Rockies. Currently I am a historic interpreter at Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm in Olathe, which means I wear a full-length, hoop-skirt dress and apron and cook over a cookstove in a house built in 1865.

What is your favorite sports team(s) and why?
The marching band at a football game because I find the music and halftime formations more exciting than the brutality of the game itself. Plus, I loved marching when I was in my high school band.

What is your favorite vacation destination, and why?
I would choose mountains before beaches and small towns before cities. After that, wherever my next trip takes me is my favorite destination.

What is your ideal sandwich?
A fluffernutter sandwich (marshmallow fluff and crunchy peanut butter

If you are at a trivia night, what category would you know most about?
