KC STEM Alliance is a not-for-profit collaborative network of educators, businesses and related organizations working to inspire interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math with the mission of generating a robust workforce of related professionals for the greater Kansas City region.
KC STEM Alliance was created in 2011 through a generous $3.2 million gift from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. Our vision is to:
Create a shared services model for two nationally acclaimed STEM programs--Project Lead the Way and FIRST--by assisting with data collection, program evaluation and facilitating school and industry partnerships
Support a solid foundation of STEM education for all students, regardless of race, gender or economic status

Just a reminder - we are planning on assembling the duffels on March 27th from 10-12 in Topeka if you would like to participate. More details will follow.
Tickets: Each Rotarian is required to purchase/sell 10 tickets @ $30 each for a total of $300. There is a prize given to the member who sells the most tickets.Please turn in your ticket money to Tedd weekly so that we can deposit it into our account to pay for food/supplies for the event.
Desserts: Each member is REQUIRED to bring at least two (2) desserts to be served at ShrimpFest. The desserts need to be dropped off after 12:00 NOON the day of the event. Desserts to bring include: pies, cakes/cupcakes, brownies, cookies. Most requested desserts are: carrot cake, red velvet, cherry pie, cream pies. Gluten-Free desserts are also encouraged -- we get a lot of requests for gluten-free desserts. Some Gluten-Free desserts include Rice Krispie Treats. Also there are desserts marked "gluten-free" in the bakery section.
Food Service: We will also need additional people to work the food service line. We will have 3 lines and need 5 people for each line. To sign-up, please contact Erik Troy. Family members and friends are also encouraged to help.
Room set-up: Table & Chairs. We have a new company supplying the tables and chairs, however, we will need to have people at the Lenexa Community Center on the afternoon of the event helping to set up tables and chairs and we will need to break down the tables and chairs at the end of the night. The more people we have the faster it will get done. Please see Steve Nettles

Why did you join Rotary:
I became a Rotarian at a time in my life in which I needed Rotary as much as Rotary needed me. I immediately felt at home with all the wonderful people I met. It was a perfect timing for me to find a way to give back to the community with people I enjoyed.

What is your favorite Rotary memory or project?
2005 Rotary International Convention in Chicago during Rotary’s centennial year and my presidential year, when I first understood the size and importance of Rotary. There were over 30,000 Rotarians at the convention.
When you are not working, how do you spend your time? Volunteer work, Reading, Cooking, Clay target shooting

There are several past participants of this program that stated their experience was life-changing and made them more aware of their capabilities. It is common to see a student become emotional when talking about their experience with RYLA. For many students, this is their first exposure to Rotary and what we, as Rotarians, can accomplish. The projects and exercises in this five-day camp are designed to get the students to think differently about certain situations and develop their own solutions with fellow students they may have not met before attending the camp. Many students worldwide, who have attended RYLA, have continued on to become members of an Interact, Rotaract, and eventually a Rotary club.
The University of Kansas in Lawrence will once again host District 5710's Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA).
