Our speaker this Friday will be Melanie Arroyo. Melanie was elected to serve as a Ward 3 council member in November 2021, making her the first Latina to join the Lenexa City Council.
Melanie is a graduate of Shawnee Mission Schools and graduated from the University of Saint Mary in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art and Psychology. She continued her education at Emporia State University where she graduated with a master’s degree in Clinical Counseling and a master’s degree in Art Therapy.
Currently, Melanie works as a clinical counselor and art therapist, and is the owner of her private practice. She has experience working with children and adults from a range of cultural backgrounds, disabilities and diverse identities.
As a mental health professional trained in trauma informed care and cultural humility, Melanie brings a unique perspective and listening ear to City Council and to the residents of Ward 3.
WE NEED VOLUNTEERS THIS SATURDAY! We will be helping the Lenexa Historical Society in their food booth at the Spinach Festival. Please contact Phil Hammond if you are interested in helping.

Closing out the Polio fundraising push until April, you might enjoy this podcast about Lenexa Public Market restaurant owner Sohaila. While she was born in Kuwait, she serves Pakistani cuisine enjoyable to any palate. Thank you for your generosity as we continue to work toward President Christopher's $4000 goal. Contact me with any questions you might have about why we continue to fight this battle to End Polio Now or how to make your contribution.
It is that time of year again -- our annual Beer Can Collection!
The past two weeks, Fred Spears has been passing out of cans of beer to all members. If you haven't gotten one yet, please tell Fred. All money collected this year will be donated to Heart to Heart International.
What to do with the beer?
Drink the beer
Rinse out and dry the beer can
Fill the can with coins, dollar bills or a check (made payable to the Lenexa Rotary Foundation)
Write you name on the can
Return to Fred Spears and he will give you another beer
Sergeant-At-Arms, Fred Spears will be selling Fine Cards for the next month. The cost is $65 and checks should be made payable to Lenexa Rotary Foundation.
Show this card when Fred comes around to collect $1 from each member and you are good to go! It also covers any other fines -- birth of a child or grandchild, or if you were seen in the news.
Checks can be given to Fred at Friday meetings or you can mail him a check : 12016 Westgate, Overland Park, KS 66213.

In one hour, you will learn what human trafficking is, how to see it, and how to report it. And if you want to earn your full digital certification by taking all three courses offered in the Learn How to End Human Trafficking series on Justice U, you can use the code ROTARYSWARM to gain free access to these courses + even more resources from Engage Together, our partners in this effort. Given the success of the Community Peace Pole Art Project and auction to raise money for Project 1020, what future community/Rotary partnership projects would you like to see undertaken with partnership of Lenexa and Western JOCO Rotary Clubs?
We are collecting egg cartons to be given to a local food pantry. They only need the 12 egg cartons, not 18.
If you have some to donate, please contact Steve Nettles. You can drop them off at his house, bring them to a meeting, or drop them off at Rimann Liquors at 87th & Lackman.
To date, we know the majority of Clubs in District 5710 have indicated they will work to meet their goal of $50 per member: As a Bonus, District 5710 has committed $4,000 to help fund this effort.
Rotary is working with the County to develop a permanent signage/recognition element for the Tree Grove to memorialize this Rotary gift to the people of Johnson county - hopefully listing the participating clubs.
The current February membership count of the Johnson County Clubs is 587 Rotarians. At $50 per member, the District could easily reach a total of $29,350. There will be a prize for the club with the most significant percentage over their goal. The Lenexa Rotary Foundation has pledged $1000 but is requesting a $50 donations from all members. All contributions from club members are voluntary. It is our hope that we will reach the $50 goal.
Please make your check out to "The Lenexa Rotary Foundation" and send your check to:
