Our speaker this Friday will be Bruce Mathews, the author of "The Kansas City Spirit: Stories of Service Above Self."

Kansas City Star Books presents The Kansas City Spirit: Stories of Service Above Self. In this new release, author Bruce Mathews and a dedicated team of Kansas Citians - Mamie Hughes, Andrew Kaplan, Christopher Leitch, Lynn Mackle and Carol Powers - recount the life stories of past Kansas Citians who personified the concept of community service. Some of the people written about in this book have grand memorials bearing witness to their accomplishments. They are treasured landmarks. Others profiled have none at all. The point: Kansas City's can-do spirit has been exemplified by those from all walks of life. That diversity is the city's strength. The foreword to the book is written by R. Crosby Kemper III, executive director of the Kansas City Public Library. The Kansas City Spirit is truly in the spirit of Bruce Mathews prior book, the best-selling Elmwood Cemetery. Both explain in loving detail the rich fabric that makes up Kansas City s past.

Woodland Charities is in constant need of medical equipment and supplies for our clinics in Guatemala, Panama and Ecuador. If members have anything to contribute, please bring it to a meeting, or contact Greg Peterson and he will pick-up.

Need a Make-Up?

When a member misses a meeting, there are several ways to make up for the absence:

Attend a Club function -- board meeting, committee meeting, project, Youth Exchange
Attend a District or International function -- Rotary Youth Exchange, PETs, District Conference
Online make-up - Rotary eclub One - go to www.rotaryeclubone.org
Attend another Rotary Club meeting
- While out-of-town for vacation or business
- In-town around the KC area
- Download the app "Rotary Club Locator" and find a Rotary club anywhere in the world.

Rotary International bylaws state that a member can make up for a missed meeting within two (2) weeks before or after the meeting. if you anticipate missing a meeting, you can make up for it up to 2 weeks before that date. If you miss a meeting, you have up to 2 weeks after the missed meeting to make up. If a member attempts to make up at another club and that club either did not meet that week, or changed venues, the club member can let their club's secretary know the date and time of the attempted make-up and it will count as a makeup toward a missed meetings. Send all make-ups to our club secretary, Jerry Henson via email.
