This Friday our speaker will be Tam Singer, Chief Executive Office at Great Plains SPCA.
Tam Singer is a life-long animal lover and dedicated animal welfare professional. Originally from the United Kingdom where she studied Communications at Nottingham Trent University. Tam’s career began in recruiting. Her most recent role prior to joining Great Plains SCPA, was in the corporate sector as the Director of Recruiting for a large multi-billion dollar global organization. During her years in the corporate sector, social responsibility was always a big priority. Tam was an active member of social responsibility groups and served on the D&I councils in both her prior roles.
She moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 2002 where she founded a non-profit organization, Make Tennessee a Place that Really Cares, or MTPRC. The organization worked to improve the lives of animals in Nashville through community outreach and education. Through MTPRC, Tam advocated to end Breed Specific Legislation and ban the chaining of dogs.
In August 2017, Tam was hired as Chief Operations Officer of Great Plains SPCA and in 2018 was promoted to Co-President. She now leads the organization as Chief Executive Officer, fostering a culture based on kindness, grace and accountability without fear of isolation.
As diverse female leader, Tam has earned the Humane Hero award from NashvillePAW magazine and Doing Good, a volunteer non-profit in Nashville, for her efforts to improve animal welfare. She currently resides in Kansas with her six animals (two cats, four dogs), her husband and her daughter.
The Shawnee Mission Northwest Interact Club is having a Snack Drive to donate to Rose Brooks Domestic Violence Center in Kansas City. The snacks are provided to survivors and their children throughout the day and at intake when the cafeteria isn’t open.
The Snack Drive will run until Friday, March 1st.
They are requesting individually packaged snackswithout nuts.

Lenexa Chamber of Commerce sent out an email regarding "Leap of Kindness Day"
Chambers across the country are encouraging their members and communities to use their extra day this Leap Year to do something kind for someone else through Leap of Kindness Day. In honor of Leap of Kindness Day, we are pleased to highlight the important work Lenexa Chamber member non-profit organizations are doing in the community, many of which have volunteer opportunities and/or “wish list” donation needs.
That’s where you come in! The Lenexa Chamber invites the business community to participate in this Leap of Kindness Day by donating your time, talent, and resources to help others. The Chamber listed organizations in the area, which included Lenexa Rotary. Click here to see the list.

Tickets: As you know, each member is required to purchase or sell AT LEAST 5 tickets. If you have not picked up your tickets, Tedd Maxfield will be getting them to you. In years past, each member needed to purchase or sell 10 tickets, but because of the smaller venue, this year it is only 5 tickets. Please get your money to Tedd ASAP.
Desserts: Each member is required to bring at least one or two desserts to ShrimpFest -- cake, pie, cookies, brownies, Gluten Free desserts. If you have any questions, please contact Amy Ruo.
We need all hands on deck for this event. This event is important for our club to raise the money we use to support all of our good works. It is a major way we put service above self.
The jury approved 40 Peace Pole submissions. The renderings were spectacular with a lot of diversity of where artists took the concept. It’s really going to be something to see. The topography of Black Hoof will add a lot to the display and arrangement.
The recipient charity will be Project 1020 and we will be using the auction platform of 32auctions. Susanne Neely has been awesome in every way across the board. I can’t say enough good things about her support of Lenexa and Rotary.

Tell us about your family: Mom of 3 children: Zaria, age 25 is an IT Technician & Technical Trainer at local gaming/tech startup; Nyah, age 22 (former RYE student) is a Water Sanitation Engineering major, a sophomore transferring to KU in the Fall; and Caleb, age 18, is a senior at Shawnee Mission West
When did you join Rotary: Well, I unofficially attended meeting as a guest for a number of years before formally joining in 2019
Why did you join Rotary: The members of this and other Rotary clubs have consistently exhibited the utmost commitment to "Service Above Self"

What is your favorite Rotary memory or project? When Lenexa Rotary sponsored my daughter, Nyah, as a Rotary Youth Exchange student in Bogota, Colombia, when she was 17 years old
When you are not working, how do you spend your time? Serving as a global advisor and board member of various organizations to help ensure that immersive and emerging technologies are safe and secure for all users, especially girls and women
