Ashley Sherard Occupation (or former): CEO of the Lenexa Chamber of Commerce Tell us about your family: I love spending time with my family! They help keep me grounded in what’s important and what’s not. I’m obsessed with my 5-year-old great-niece Scout and 2-year-old great-nephew Sage, who are just the funniest and cutest little humans. I wish everyone was as enthusiastic as they are when they see me! When did you join Rotary: Not long after I came to the Lenexa Chamber of Commerce in 2002! It didn’t take long for Lenexa Rotary Club icon Charlie Smith to come knocking – he was a founding Club member with my dad and had known me my entire life. Why did you join Rotary: I’d grown up with my dad taking me to his Rotary meetings on occasion and it made a big impression – the fellowship, the purpose-driven mission, the guest speakers educating and informing. All the same things that attracted me to continuing the family tradition! What Rotary offices have you held: Years ago I was Chairman of the Lenexa Rotary Foundation, which I really enjoyed, and I can’t remember what else. More recently I’ve been heading up different volunteer projects, mostly related to our partnership with the Lenexa Fire Department. What is your favorite Rotary memory or project? There have been so many good memories, programs that have stuck with me, and projects I enjoyed, but I think my favorite Rotary memories are the ShrimpFests my dad was able to attend – I think we both felt pride in my carrying on something he helped build, and we got to be Rotarians together for one night a year. When you are not working, how do you spend your time? I let my mind slow down by puttering outside with my plants or unwinding with friends or some TV – I’m a sucker for British detective series, anything on Masterpiece, and “F1: Drive to Survive.” As much as I can I also slip away to my cabin in northern Minnesota! |
