This year’s annual Beer/Soda Can Collection was a great success, led by Fred Spears. Members contributed change, bills, and checks in the cans, raising a total of $1,959. Additionally, an anonymous "angel" donor contributed an extra $1,500, bringing our grand total to $3,459.
We have chosen to donate this collection to Operation BBQ Relief, an organization that addressed our club several months ago. Operation BBQ Relief deploys rapidly when disaster strikes, providing hot meals within 24–48 hours to bring comfort and hope to families and first responders.
Operation BBQ Relief will be present at our meeting this Friday to formally accept our check.
As you may know, fellow Lenexa Rotarian Milton Jeffery is from Jamaica and still has family there who fortunately survived the Hurricane Melissa. In alignment with our past efforts to support hurricane-affected communities, the Lenexa Rotary Foundation has approved a Pass-Through Grant to raise funds for Heart to Heart International. These funds will specifically help them provide essential hygiene kits in Jamaica.
If you would like to donate, please make your check payable to the Lenexa Rotary Foundation. You can give your donation directly to Phil Hammond, Alan Kruckemyer, or Amy Ruo.
We look forward to participating in another hands-on hygiene kit building project next year.
Mark your calendar for ShrimpFest 2026 - it will be here before you know it! This is Lenexa Rotary's BIGGEST fundraiser of the year and we need ALL MEMBERS to be involved.
Kevin will be reaching out to committee chairs from last year to see if you are still interested in being the committee chair in 2026.

We have an almost complete nativity collection by Bob and Jan Simpich. We started getting various Simpich pieces (mostly Dickens and Christmas Carolers) after we were married as gifts from Lisa’s parents. We then started adding to this collection and when Lisa’s parents died received their significant collection. We always liked the nativity set, but it was too expensive. When we decided that we would finally start picking up some pieces, they had stopped making them. One of their kids started a consignment sales shop in Colorado, so we went and got a couple of pieces until they closed the shop. They recently opened an online shop where we have been able to work on finishing our collection with only one piece remaining. This collection makes me think of the hand made art that is being lost to mass manufacturing and collections that you only dreamed of having as a young married couple can come true many years later.
