This Friday . .

Our speaker this Friday is Pete Dulin.  He will be speaking to us about "Kansas: Birthplace of Prohibition."

Author, writer, and speaker Pete Dulin has presented numerous talks and conducted classes on the history of brewing and winemaking in Missouri and Kansas from the mid-1800s to contemporary times. He also explores the impact of Prohibition on these industries from past to present.

Kansas once led wine production in the U.S. and was home to more than 90 breweries before Prohibition. The Kansas legislature legally abolished the manufacture and sale of alcohol in the state in 1881 and doomed these industries. National Prohibition wouldn't occur for four decades. Pete will examine the growth and demise of brewing and winemaking in Kansas.  He will discuss the social, moral, cultural and political forces in Kansas during the early and mid-19th century. Additionally he will present how Prohibition dashed economic dreams or prompted entrepreneurs to conduct business in Missouri. Finally, he will discuss the renaissance of local breweries and wineries.

WE STILL NEED HOST FAMILIES!!!!

All applications are in and we still have five (5) boys and one (1) girl who need sponsor clubs and host families.

PLEASE ask your family or friends if they would be interested in hosting one of these exchange students.  If you know anyone that is interested, please have them contact Steve Nettles.

ShrimpFest
THANK YOU everyone for making ShrimpFest 2019 a fun and successful fundraiser! We will hear later about financials, and we will need to determine -- plus and minus -- regarding the changes we tried. But I didn’t want to delay saying THANK YOU for your dedication and caring. I heard so much fabulous feedback on the food and general fun atmosphere.

Need a Make-Up?

When a member misses a meeting, there are several ways to make up for the absence:
  • Attend a Club function -- board meeting, committee meeting, project, Youth Exchange
  • Attend a District or International function -- Rotary Youth Exchange, PETs, District Conference
  • Online make-up - Rotary eclub One - go to www.rotaryeclubone.org
  • Attend another Rotary Club meeting
    • While out-of-town for vacation or business
    • In-town around the KC area
    • Download the app "Rotary Club Locator" and find a Rotary club anywhere in the world.
Rotary International bylaws state that a member can make up for a missed meeting within two (2) weeks before or after the meeting.  if you anticipate missing a meeting, you can make up for it up to 2 weeks before that date.  If you miss a meeting, you have up to 2 weeks after the missed meeting to make up.  If a member attempts to make up at another club and that club either did not meet that week, or changed venues, the club member can let their club's secretary know the date and time of the attempted make-up and it will count as a makeup toward a missed meetings.  Send all make-ups to our club secretary, Jerry Henson via email.
