This Friday . . .

Our speaker on Friday will be District Governor Stephanie Meyer.  This will be her first "official visit" since taking the office on July 1, 2022.

Stephanie Meyer has nearly twenty years of experience in the public and non-profit sectors in a variety of elected, appointed, and volunteer roles. She most recently completed more than six years of service as a Shawnee City Council member, including three as Council President. Prior to that role, she served on the city’s Planning Commission.

Stephanie is a fourth generation Kansan and a native of Wichita. She attended Kansas State University, where she earned a dual bachelor’s degree in journalism and public relations. She later received her master’s degree in public administration from the University of Kansas. Her professional background includes communications, governmental affairs, and business development work.

Stephanie’s community involvement includes serving as a Past President of the Shawnee Rotary Club and Assistant District Governor, Past Chair of the Johnson County Theatre in the Park Advisory Council, Past Board Member for Prairie Paws Animal Shelter, Director Emeritus for the Dwight D. Eisenhower Excellence in Public Service Series, Volunteer “Big” with Big Brothers Big Sisters; and she recently became a living kidney donor. Following that experience, Stephanie joined the National Kidney Foundation’s regional advisory board to help advocate for organ donation, and in March 2022, successfully summited Mount Kilimanjaro with 21 fellow living kidney donors to increase awareness.  In 2018, she was honored to receive the Gene Amos Service Above Self Award in recognition of her contributions.

She is an alum of the Centurions Leadership Program (2019), Leadership Kansas (2014) and Shawnee Tomorrow (2013), a member of the American Enterprise Institute’s National Leadership Network, and a delegate to the American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) trips to Tunisia and Morocco (2014) and Timor-Leste (2019).  She also previously served as the Vice Chair of the National League of Cities First Tier Suburbs Council and was a member of the NLC Young Municipal Leaders Steering Committee and Community and Economic Development Advocacy Committee.

Stephanie and her husband Bryan, a patent and intellectual property attorney, have lived in Shawnee since 2007 (with their rescue mutt Charlie) and are members of the First United Methodist Church of the Resurrection.

Ukraine Refugee Project

Steven Youngblood from the Parkville Club spoke at our club about peace journalism just before the pandemic hit. He also wrote an op-ed in Sunday’s Star https://t.co/YkTin3UArk that discussed Ukraine, and discusses the Rotary project mentioned in last week's meeting.

As you know, the situation for Ukrainian refugees is dire. 350,000 refugees have made their way to the tiny neighboring country of Moldova, where a per capital annual income of just $4,547 means that Moldovans have only a limited capacity to assist their new guests.

Seeing this need, the Parkville Rotary Club is partnering with the Chisinau, Moldova Rotary Club on a fundraiser to assist Ukrainian refugees. Contributions collected here in the U.S. will be used by the Chisinau Rotary to buy food, supplies, and other necessities for the refugees.

Donations are being accepted through PayPal. You can pay with a credit card, debit card, or through a PayPal account. Please use this link: bit.ly/RotaryForUkraine

Donations can also be made by check, payable to Parkville Rotary Club, and mailed to PO Box 12064, Parkville, MO 64152

Flippin Sweet Disc Golf Tournament

8TH ANNUAL FLIPPIN SWEET DISC GOLF TOURNAMENT
June 25, 2022

The tournament is in its 8th year, and is always held at the Thornhill Disc Golf Course in Stilwell, Kansas, just off 167th & Metcalf. Conceived with the idea of raising funds for suicide prevention and suicide awareness, it is held in the memory of Tom Karlin and Grant Gottschalk, lifelong friends that took their own lives in their teens. Tom and Grant loved the game of disc golf and the people that play it.  Nothing would please them more than to know that they threw a disc golf tournament where their fellow disc golfers had a good time.  CLICK HERE for more information.
