Our speaker this Friday will be Lindsey Douglas, Deputy Secretary of Transportation for the State of Kansas.  She will be speaking to us about the Highway 69 proposal.

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), along with the Kansas Turnpike Authority (KTA) and the City of Overland Park, are conducting an in-depth study of how best to improve public safety, reduce congestion and increase travel time predictability along U.S. 69.

U.S. 69 from 179th Street north to 103rd Street is one of the state’s busiest highways, with heavy congestion peaking during rush hours and at other times.

Previous studies indicate that U.S. 69 congestion will increase significantly in the future, creating slower traffic and longer response times for emergency personnel. Transportation improvements are needed to address congestion and keep the economy moving. These improvements will be identified as part of the U.S. 69 Expansion Project.

Rotary Matters
Gathering for Good Fundraiser

As described in Mandy Sheldon's recent district email, "Gathering For Good" will be held at the Prairie Band Casino Event Center (just north of Topeka) on March 20th. This event is designed to have fun and raise money for the Rotary Foundation. Registration will be open soon with much more information to follow. For now, know that we will have live entertainment to kick us off. The evening will consist of a silent auction, dinner, a brief view of the impact of the Rotary Foundation, and end with a live auction featuring Charlie Moon from Wichita who is also a Rotarian. You will start seeing catalogs of what items will be available very soon. This will be a hybrid event. Prairie Band Casino has assured us that they can accommodate 160 people safely distanced in this 12,000 square foot room. If you would enjoy attending from home more, we will be offering a virtual version simultaneously. In the past, the Lenexa Rotary Foundation purchased a table for $1,000.   We buy additional tables depending on how many members want to attend.  Some members pitch in the $60 chair price (which also goes to the District Foundation fund) but that certainly isn't a requirement. This event  is open to the entire club.

This is coming up fast, so please let President Steve or Lenet know if you wish to attend in-person so the club can purchase the appropriate number of tables.
