Christopher Coleman

Occupation (or former):   Data Warehouse Architect. Do not feel bad if you do not know what this means; most of my managers haven't understood what I do for a living.  Essentially, I make data useful. Lots and lots of data.

Tell us about your family:   My wife, Ruhe, and I have been married for 27 years as of March 15. My oldest son, Isaac, just proposed to his girlfriend, Bailey; they live in Lincoln, NE, where he is a marketing director. My youngest son, Isaiah, works as a Mechanical Engineer locally.

When did you join Rotary:  I joined Rotary after I no longer needed to spend time with the PTSA. This was in May of 2019.

Why did you join Rotary:  I joined Rotary because Lenet Compton and my father ganged up on me. They were constantly telling me about the benefits and the opportunities for service. I was previously involved with other organizations, but I wanted something with a real impact, not just cool swag

What Rotary offices have you held:    I am the immediate past president, having been president-elect in 20-21.

What is your favorite Rotary memory or project?   My favorite memories are the companionable moments during projects. I participated in the Dictionary Project labelling when I still did not know most members very well, and had a great time working and laughing together. Sitting outside a grocery store selling pennants for the Monarchs and swapping stories with Fred will forever be treasured. Making the Interact kids laugh and feel less nervous about a service project. I even enjoyed my installation banquet, where it rained, and we got wet. But it's the moments of connection that I enjoy most.

When you are not working, how do you spend your time?   I'm a pretty avid gamer, tabletop or PC. I write and tell stories, and am currently leading a campaign to get people to stop believing in Belgium. People who laugh are my favorite people.

RYLA - June 4-8

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)

University of Kansas, Lawrence
June 4-8, 2023

**Please pass along this information to any high school student that would be interested**

There are several past participants of this program that stated their experience was life-changing and made them more aware of their capabilities. It is common to see a student become emotional when talking about their experience with RYLA. For many students, this is their first exposure to Rotary and what we, as Rotarians, can accomplish. The projects and exercises in this five-day camp are designed to get the students to think differently about certain situations and develop their own solutions with fellow students they may have not met before attending the camp. Many students worldwide, who have attended RYLA, have continued on to become members of an Interact, Rotaract, and eventually a Rotary club.

The University of Kansas in Lawrence will once again host District 5710's Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA).
