Our speaker this Friday will be Elizabeth Mayer, the Co-CEO of HappyBottoms.

HappyBottoms provides a monthly supply of 75 diapers or 50 training pants to children in need through more than 70 social service agency sites. Their distribution agencies provide healthcare, emergency assistance, education, childcare and case management services to families in need. Their partner model has a ripple effect on families by providing access to other services that will help lift them out of poverty.

Happy Bottoms-Volunteer Event
Happy Bottoms Volunteer Diaper Wrap

Friday, Sept. 20, 2024
1:30 - 3:30 PM  (after Rotary meeting)

Happy Bottoms Warehouse
303 W. 79th Street
Kansas City, Missouri

Our club has been a long-term supporter of the HappyBottoms Diaper Bank, both financially and by volunteering.  THIS FRIDAY our meeting program speaker will be Elizabeth Mayer, Co-Executive Director of Happy Bottoms.  After our meeting, club volunteers will re-convene at the HappyBottoms warehouse headquarters for a 2 hour session of counting and wrapping diapers.  This is easy work and a fun group exercise, and we'll be done before 4 PM.

For those of you planning to volunteer at Happy Bottoms this Friday, please wear or bring closed toe shoes for our time in their warehouse.  Any comfortable clothing is appropriate.  See you Friday!

Bring a Guest to Rotary-Oct. 11

Bring a Guest to Rotary

October 11th

Speaker - Lenexa Mayor Julie Sayers

We are asking that every member attend that meeting if you possibly can, and to bring at least one guest.  This guest can be a neighbor,  a co-worker (paid or volunteer), a spouse or partner, a son or daughter or friend who lives in or close to Lenexa.  Please don't sell this as a recruiting exercise, just an opportunity for a free lunch with friendly people, a break in their routine, and a chance to see what Rotary is about.  There will be no hard selling at the meeting, and no pressure after the meeting.  It is just my hope that some percentage of the guests will like what they see at the meeting and be motivated to come back.

Almost every Rotarian initially joined after someone they knew and liked invited them to a meeting, and then felt good after they left.  That's what we hope will happen with some (all would be real good) of our guests on October 11.  We must continually load our pipeline of potential members to survive and thrive as a club.
Fire Station Open House
THANK YOU to everyone - Rotarians and Interact members - who came out to help cook and serve hot dogs, chips and water!  Ashley Sherard said we distributed 1,428 hot dogs!!  Another successful community event!

PolioPlus Society

Several members asked about the Polio Plus Society form after Jim Arnett spoke at last Friday's  meeting.  See application below.  P.S.  ==>  check the fine print.. one does not have to be a Rotarian to be a Polio Plus Society Member... so spread the news accordingly

Thank you for your support

What is your occupation?

What is your favorite hobby or pastime?

Attending theatre, music, arts events

Where did you grow up and what was it like?

Muskogee, Oklahoma.  It was a place where a young person did not have to be afraid of walking to school, riding the buses, learning to drive, because it was safe – people looked out for each other

What is a favorite movie you always recommend to people?  Why do you love it?

Babe and Bambi – because the stories are universal if you look beyond the production values

If you were coming onto a stage, what would your entrance song be?

Everything’s Coming Up Roses by Ethel Merman – and you thought I would select a hymn!

What is your favorite type of cuisine to cook or eat?

Because of my declining vision, I no longer cook from scratch as much as I used to -- but I LOVE Thai food
