August is Membership Month

Rotarians join and stay with their clubs primarily because they seek opportunities for community service, fellowship, and friendship. Many of the non-Rotarians you know are looking for the same things. Invite them to help with your service projects, attend a networking night, or participate in a club get-together and help them see for themselves how Rotary connects leaders to make a positive change.

Here are some potential candidates to consider for membership:

  • Friends and family members
  • Business acquaintances
  • Professional colleagues
  • Younger community leaders who are already connected to Rotary through Rotaract, RYLA, peace fellowships, Youth Exchange, and other programs.

This Friday's meeting . . .

Our speaker will be Rod Brooks, CEO of Stop Hunger Now.  Is also a Rotarian and a member of the Rotary Club of Cary, North Carolina.  Stop Hunger Now is an international hunger relief non profit organization that coordinates the packaging and distribution of food and other life-saving aid to people in developing nations.  Founded in 1998, it has mobilized over 450,000 volunteers to send more than 150,000,000 meals to 65 countries.

Last year we held a "beer can collection" to raise money for this organization.  It was a huge success and Lenexa Rotary along with the SMNW Interact Club packaged meals that were then sent Nepal to feed people recovering from a 7.9 magnitude earthquake.

Last week, Sergeant-At-Arms, Fred Spears announced that we are doing this project again and passed out beer cans.  Please fill them up with coins and/or a check and return them to Fred Spears.  We will be collecting money until the first part of December.  We plan on again packaging meals with the SMNW Interact sometime this winter.

Rotary Day for PolioPlus -- September 15th

Tuesday, September 15th there will be a joint Rotary Day for PolioPlus between Lenexa Rotary, Johnson County Rotary, Western Johnson County Rotary and Shawnee Rotary.  It will be held at Falcon Valley Clubhouse, 9801 Falcon Valley Drive in Lenexa and will run from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

The speaker will be Dr. Priti Lakhani who is a healthcare executive for Cerner's Physician Alignment Organization.  Dr. Lakhani as also climbed Mt. Kilamanjaro and will be sharing her stories of the climb. Additionally, there will be a presentation about PolioPlus.

The cost will be $10 which will include a dinner of:  Hamburger, chips, cookie and one drink coupon.  Additional drinks are available for purchase.

Feel free to invite your family and friends.  It is a good way to get to know other Rotarians and also support Rotary's PolioPlus.  President Amy would like to see a large representation of Lenexa Rotarians!

Notes from the "YPad"

We had 2 notes on the YPad last last week.  1) Ask guests and speakers for their email address and add them to the weekly newsletter list; and 2) There is a 20 minute CPR course - would that be a good idea for a program?

Thank you for the suggestions!  The program suggestion was given to Evelyn Hornaday.  President Amy has been actively adding friends to the email "Friend" list; however, after last week's suggestion, she will be adding the guests and speakers to the Friend list also.  Thank you!

During the meeting if you think of some thing that you want to share, feel free to jot it down on the YPad -- a random thought, a suggestion, a compliment, an idea for a speaker, a joke, etc.  Each week President Amy will pick up the YPads and report any messages in the newsletter and at the following meeting.
