Our speaker will be Lenexa Rotarian Jim Bowers. Jim will provide us with an inside look at the City of Lenexa. He has been the City’s Human Resources Director since 1996. Jim is a graduate of Ohio Northern University and the Ohio Northern University Law School. He has been a practicing attorney, management consultant, and for the past 27 years a public sector human resources professional, in Ohio, Arizona, California, and Kansas. Jim has been married to Connie for 27 years and has two grown daughters, Weston, 33 and Demitria, 24, and two grandchildren, Connor 4, and Sylvie, 2.
Our meeting on the 5th Friday of September will be at Park University at Lenexa City Center. Order your food ahead of time, pick it up and come to the 2nd Floor. We will meet in the large classroom. Our speaker will be Joe Folsom with Johnson County Med-Act.
Once again, we will be helping the Lenexa Fire Department by grilling hot dogs and distributing them along with chips and water to people attending the open house. Please contact Ashley Sherard if you would like to help.
We are partnering with the Shawnee Rotary Club for a ramp building event. If you are interested in volunteering for this project please contact Greg Peterson. This is a very rewarding experience that enables older adults and people with disabilities in the Kansas City Metro area live in safe, accessible and healthy homes. You don't need to be a master craftsman to volunteer, you just need to be able to work. A ramp gives hope to those who didn't have hope before receiving a ramp.
Lenexa Rotary will once again be helping sell concessions at the Lenexa Spinach Festival along with the Lenexa Historical Society. We will be grilling burgers and serving spinach salad along with other tasty treats. Below is the sign-up sheet. If you want to help, please contact Phil Hammond
Lenexa Rotary over the years has donated to many of the projects of the Lenexa Historical Society. Since 2019 Lenexa Rotary has helped LHS raise over $13,892 by providing labor at the BBQ Parking and Spinach Festival. Thank you Lenexa Rotary!
Sergeant-At-Arms, Fred Spears, has started passing out beer cans to all members. We have done this the past several years to raise money for a certain cause -- this year's cause to be determined. In the past we have used the money toward a meal packing project "Rise Against Hunger" and also for Anti Human Trafficking.
Fill your beer can with change, bills or a check and return it to Fred Spears.

Tell us about your family:
I am blessed to be married to Amy for 31 years. We have four beautiful children, a son-in-law and daughter-in-law, and one grandson. We have lived our entire married lives in Lenexa. Our kids all graduated from SM West. We are a house divided – I graduated K-State, my wife graduated a Jayhawk, and are kids are split between the two. We are blessed to have all our kids living nearby.
When did you join Rotary:August 2023
Why did you join Rotary: I owe this to Becca Coleman. Becca encouraged me to join. She didn’t have to twist my arm at all - I had attended a Rotary meeting previously to present to the group, and I saw so many familiar faces that I knew and respected.
What Rotary offices have you held: None
What is your favorite Rotary memory or project? I’ve only been at this a bit, but I’ve most enjoyed meeting Rotarians
When you are not working, how do you spend your time?
Lately my time has been focused on the mayoral campaign. Otherwise, we enjoy spending time at our lake house with our family and friends. Amy and I enjoy golfing as time allows. I also enjoy remodeling and home improvement projects at my house or my kids’ houses.
