This Friday . . .

Our speaker this Friday will be Michelle Garrand the Community Program Specialist with Alzheimer's Association-Heart of America Chapter.

The Alzheimer’s Association - Heart of America Chapter is the premier source of information and support for the 50,000 individuals and 200,000 family members and care partners living with dementia in our service area. Through their bi-state network of offices, the Heart of America Chapter offers a broad range of programs and services, including a 24-hour Helpline (800.272.3900), at no cost to families. They fund advancements in research to prevent, treat and ultimately conquer this disease and, with volunteers, raise awareness of, and advocate for, the needs and rights of people with dementia.

In November the Alzheimer's Association recognizes the more than 11 million family members and friends who are currently caring for a person living with Alzheimer's nationwide

Warm Glove Collection

WARM GLOVES COLLECTION

As you know we are participating in this multi-Club District Grant. Our goal is to provide at least 180 Winter Kits for female victims of Human Trafficking who are living on the streets.  While we have funds budgeted in the grant to reach this goal, all clubs are asking their members for donations of certain items for the kits so that we can exceed our goal. Our club was selected to donate warm winter gloves. To date we only have 10 pairs. I would like to get 40 pairs - approximately one for each member. If you can do so, please bring in your donation this Friday. Remember, we need warm gloves in womens large sizes (or the equivalent in men's sizes).

Once all items for the kits have been secured, we will schedule a  "build" in the local area. More news on the date and the location to follow.

Thank you in advance for your donations.

Rotarian Spotlight

Doug Gorham

Occupation (or former):  Retired Licensed Funeral Director, and licensed Crematory Operator at Amos Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Tell us about yourself:  I live with my partner, Claire Chase in Lenexa. Claire is the Property Tax Director for Canadian Pacific Kansas City railroad and will retire in the spring. We intend to do quite a bit of travel!
I have a son, Anthony who lives in Florida along with my granddaughter, Maya who is 5 years old

When did you join Rotary:  I joined Rotary in 2010 not long after I moved here from Naples, Florida

Why did you join Rotary:  Being new to the community, it was an opportunity to meet people and become integrated into the community. I was impressed by the help that Rotary has provided around the globe, as well as our club projects that benefit our area and youth

What Rotary offices have you held:  Vice-president, Chairman of ShrimpFest, Club president, and Chairman of the Lenexa Rotary Foundation

What is your favorite Rotary memory or project?  ShrimpFest has always been a best memory for me. The first year that I participated I was assigned to cook shrimp and have been a “shrimp cook” every year after. Since retiring my intention is for greater project participation in the coming year and future

When you are not working, how do you spend your time?  I like to garden, play chess, and play my collection of guitars
