Anti-Human Trafficking

Get up to date on club activities by going to our website then click on Club Document, Anti-Human Trafficking Awareness.  Or you may try this direct link:  CLICK HERE   Contact Lenet Compton if you want more information on, or you want to become involved in, these efforts.

Watch for information from our District's Anti-Human Trafficking Committee regarding the start of a new Cause club.  This is an entirely online club that will focus soley on anti-human trafficking efforts.  This new club is sponsored by Leawood RC.  Because this is an actual club, Rotarians cannot be a member of their traditional club AND the cause club.  This cause club is not intended to relieve current clubs from working on their own anti-human trafficking efforts.  The District leadership does not want current Rotarians leaving their current club for this club.  You can, however, be an interested party to the club and attend meetings as well as participate in their projects.  I hope you will join me in letting your friends that are interested in anti-human trafficking know about this new Rotary club opportunity.  Contact District Chair, Patti Mellard for additional information.

There are more ways you can get involved in the fight against human trafficking.  One is a membership in RAGAS which stands for Rotary Action Group Against Slavery.  This is an International Rotary group - not a club.  There are informative monthly newsletters and online meetings to share what is going on in clubs around the world to fight modern slavery.  I have, and continue to, enjoy my membership.

Environment

You may have heard the exciting news, Rotary International has added the Environment as an Area of Focus.  This may be the time you have been waiting for to join Lenet Compton with your own ESRAG membership - Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group.  Check out their website for wonderful videos.  And be sure to check out the  Lifestyle Calculator

Anti Human Trafficking -

Help raise funds for Veronica’s Voice as they continue their mission to empower women to be free from the abuse of commercial sex trafficking. Veronica’s Voice will be at the Overland Park Savers at 95th and Nall on Wednesday, August 12th from 4 - 5 pm where they will be accepting drop off donations. Place all items in large garbage bags (30 gallon type is ideal). Please be sure to bring your donations to a Veronica’s Voice volunteer (in a “Thrivent” shirt) so they get credit for these items. Donations will go directly towards the cost of residency at Veronica’s Voice recovery home, Magdalen KC, so women can continue receiving essential services such as trauma counseling, job/life skills counseling, addiction recovery, and much more.

Need a Make-Up?

When a member misses a meeting, there are several ways to make up for the absence:
  • Attend a Club function -- board meeting, committee meeting, project, Youth Exchange
  • Attend a District or International function -- Rotary Youth Exchange, PETs, District Conference
  • Online make-up - Rotary eclub One - go to www.rotaryeclubone.org
  • Attend another Rotary Club meeting
    • While out-of-town for vacation or business
    • In-town around the KC area
    • Download the app "Rotary Club Locator" and find a Rotary club anywhere in the world.
Rotarians can make up for an absence at their club meeting within the same Rotary year.  If a member attempts to make up at another club and that club either did not meet that week, or changed venues, the club member can let their club's secretary know the date and time of the attempted make-up and it will count as a makeup toward a missed meetings.  Make ups also qualify if you attend an eClub meeting.   Send all make-ups to our club secretary, Bill McCollum via email.
