This Friday our speaker will be Alicia Ellingsworth, Co-Founder of KC Farm School at Gibbs Road.
Their mission and work are guided by the acknowledgment of our responsibility to care for Earth, its resources, and its life. They work with, rather than simply for, their shared communities. They pull from the wisdom of their ancestors, tune in to the soil, observe the messages of plants, and listen to the call of the animals on the farm. They walk among life and share its energy. These philosophies guide the practices used to fulfill the mission and vision of KC Farm School.
Their mission statement includes the words: “to inspire individuals of all ages, ancestries and abilities.” They are ever striving to be inclusive in actions, programming and representation. Their staff is provided opportunity to learn best practices in cultural competency, food justice and trauma-informed practices. They actively recruit team members who are reflective of their community and underrepresented in the agriculture field.
The first of their farm agreements is that they say hello to everyone they meet. They practice radical hospitality and welcome shared communities on-farm, hands-on for a meal, learning, a simple walkabout, regular community events and opportunities to guide the work happening here. They are not doing this work ‘for’ you, they must do it ‘with’ you. For more information CLICK HERE

It was a damp, cloudy and muddy morning this past Saturday, but Lenexa Rotarians and members of the Shawnee Mission Northwest Interact Club picked up trash along the Mill Creek Streamway. Thank you to everyone who helped!
Great meeting last with with visiting club E-Club Global Travelers. We had about 32 visiting Rotarians. The President, Melanie DeLuca, was our speaker.
