The poles serve as a daily reminder that goodness comes from acts of kindness and that peace comes from goodness.
PEACE POLES COMING TO LENEXA The City of Lenexa recently announced the Lenexa Peace Poles Community Art Project, a public art exhibit to promote peace, hope, creativity and community involvement. Six-foot-tall wooden poles displaying messages of peace, decorated by members of the community, will be installed in the city’s Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park. Peace Poles are found all over the world, in a tradition dating back more than 60 years. The Lenexa exhibit opens May 1, 2021 and runs through the fall. Residents, community groups, businesses and artists are welcome to apply and display their creativity. All skill levels are encouraged to participate. According to the project description, “The poles serve as a daily reminder that goodness comes from acts of kindness and that peace comes from goodness.” The exhibit includes an interactive map of the Peace Poles and will award monetary prizes. Applications are due Feb. 1, 2021. A juried committee will review applications. Once the exhibit is over, the poles will be auctioned.
