Meet our new member Sarah Donohoe.
Sarah moved to the Kansas City area about four years ago from Estes Park, Colorado, where she was a hikemaster for the YMCA of the Rockies. For the past two years she spent six and a half months of the year back in Estes Park, supervising the hiking program for the Y. She and Joe Potter and purchased a home in Shawnee last November so she is staying in Kansas this summer. Sarah hase been a challenge course facilitator for fifth and sixth graders at TimberRidge Adventure Center, a Johnson County Park & Rec facility, and is also a historic interpreter at Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop in Olathe.
Sarah plays the pennywhistle in the Old Time Village Musicians band, playing Civil War-era music, and dance with the Missouri Town Cloggers. She and Joe are starting a new dance group that will practice at Mahaffie. They dance traditional steps to mid-19th century music. (Talk to her if you’re interested!)
She has a degree in Journalism from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and had a career in public relations in Colorado Springs, Colorado and Omaha, Nebraska. She has written a weekly column for the Estes Park News since 2006 and continues to do so. In 2017 Sarah published a book, “Slices of Life, Estes Park” which contains the best of 10 years of columns.
