We wanted to share some information about a wonderful collaborative project that was recently on display at Black Hoof Park. The Lenexa Rotary Club, Lenexa Arts Council, and Lenexa Parks & Recreation Department partnered to present a collection of Peace Poles.

For those unfamiliar, a Peace Pole is a monument dedicated to the message "May Peace Prevail on Earth." This tradition began in Japan following World War II and was introduced to the United States in 1986. The international peace symbol is widely recognized, and there are now over 200,000 Peace Poles in nearly every country.

This year's exhibit featured 35 poles along the trail, beautifully decorated by 32 talented local artists and groups. These artists dedicated a significant amount of time and creativity to craft these inspiring expressions of peace. Additionally, two poles were collaboratively decorated by community members at the Lenexa Art Fair in May, further highlighting the community's engagement with this meaningful project.

In a heartwarming effort to support the local community, an auction of some of the Peace Poles raised over $3,500 for Project 1020, a homeless shelter in Lenexa.
