This Friday . . .

Our speaker will be Rob Lofthouse.  Rob is a guest speaker, sports journalist, bestselling and award-winning book author in addition to working as a Vice President for Brainstorm Labs here in Lenexa.

His freelance professional writing experience covers nearly sixty years in the sports world, writing game day articles published for local and regional media in Pennsylvania, Kansas and Missouri. He has written numerous articles for domestic and international periodicals and has 4 more books in development along with a movie screenplay.

Honor Through Sacrifice is Robert’s first full-length published book which was prompted by a deep love of history, a keen desire to promote and extend the legacy of his subject, Gordon Joseph Lippman AND to do what writers do – write stories. This biography is about Gordon Lippman’s life as a career US Army officer, member of the Greatest Generation who led men twice his age into some of the biggest military skirmishes our nation faced in the 20th Century like the 2nd D-Day in Europe, Battle of the Bulge, the Korean War and Vietnam. Gordon received two battlefield promotions, was recognized by five nations for his valor, and rose in ranks to become a humble but great military leader during our life time.

Robert, a former US Marine NCO, and Gordon, were first cousins so this story is personal.

Marshall Rimann

Occupation (or former): Founder and former owner of Rimann Liquors of Lenexa (estb. 1983) and Rimann Liquors of Prairie Village (estb. 1999)

Tell us about your family: I have been married to Mary since 1978. Our family includes Sandy, a 13 year-old Jack Russell Terrier, and Chewy who is almost 3. He is of undetermined lineage.

When did you join Rotary: February 1, 1992

Why did you join Rotary: As a resident and business owner in Lenexa I felt it was an opportunity to become more a part of the community. When Greg Peterson invited me to a meeting, I was ready to join.

What Rotary offices have you held: President, Foundation Chair, Program Chair, Shrimpfest Chair and more.

What is your favorite Rotary memory or project? My favorite memories involve Shrimpfest. It has been fun to watch the event grow and evolve. The best part is that there is essentially 100% participation by the club membership. My favorite part of Rotary is the many friendships I have made.

When you are not working, how do you spend your time? Photography is a passion of mine. I am also an actor, having performed in various theatre venues through the area. Although I am retired from the business, wine and beer still hold a strong interest for me. Cheers!
