VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Only 3rd and 5th graders visit the trailer (all other grade-levels receive classroom instruction). Each classroom visits the trailer for 30 minutes, split into two 15-min groups. The firefighters make the presentations and wrangle the kids; we generally don’t have much interaction with students outside of answering a mock 911 call – instead, we act as The Great and Powerful Oz, resetting fire hazards in rooms, flipping switches, running the smoke machine, etc.

We need only one (1) Rotarian per morning and afternoon shift, and Rotarians should plan to arrive 10 min before your shift. Our default volunteer timeslots are 9-11:30am and 11:30am-2pm – but because I have the actual classroom schedules I have adjusted volunteer timeslots for each individual school. You are of course more than welcome to work more than one shift (please do, in fact!), whether back-to-back or on different days.

No prior experience is necessary. You can either drop by another shift for a bit and have that Rotarian show you the ropes, or the LFD is willing to set up training times for any new volunteers, or in a pinch the LFD can show you onsite how to help. So don’t be shy!
